Destinations and destinies

Have you ever wondered...
If people from Poland are called "Poles," why aren't people from Holland called "Holes?" (Maybe SxyCrazyCool can help me with this one )

So I'm going to graduate again a year and a half from now. I'm not planning to stay here in northern New York, unless I find a Reason To Stay. What I'm really looking for is a Destination. I have no idea where I'd like to wind up after that year and a half goes by. Perhaps I'll find my destination through here...perhaps I won't. I'm not sure where I'll end up, or with whom, but I can't wait to find out. Either way I'm looking forward to the journey.

Destiny. I'm not sure I believe in destiny...I think it's more about creating opportunities to meet the right person at the right time than waiting for it to happen.

Do you believe in destiny? What are your thoughts on the subject?

When it comes to destiny I lean toward the explanation from Forest Gump-It is a mixture of predestination and free will choices. It can be the result of a self fulfilled prophecy. Sort like, "If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't." Yet the self-fulfilled prophecy doesn't take into account the extenuating circumstances of that which is beyond your control. The beauty of life is that at any time we can change our minds and our directions, thereby changing our destiny. Does that make sense?

It makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing that. It's a good way to look at things. Extenuating circumstances makes me think of a quote I like..whereever you wind up, "don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance...and so are everybody else's." (from baz luhrmann, not sure where he got it)

I believe the choices we make lead us to where we are suppose to be. We may not realize it at the time, we may wonder why....but it always is how it's suppose to be.

You will find that 'perfect fit' when the time comes.

Thanks Jadey. I hope it comes sooner than later. lol My decision to move here from New Mexico at times seems questionable. I left a lot behind there, and sometimes I wish I had never left. I'm making the best of things while I'm here, I'm crossing a bridge to the next chapter of my life, and someday I'll look back and know that this was where I was meant to be at this time of my life.

Hahahaha that's too funny!! I'm glad they don't call us 'Holes'.. but I have been wondering why we're called Dutch. It's either 'Holland' or 'The Netherlands'.. I don't see anything that looks like 'Dutch' in there..
Holes.. hahaha rrright!

And about destiny.. that is when things are meant to be huh? .. I have to admit that I don't really like the word destiny (specially not in my language).. It sort of implicates that, well everything is meant to be anyway, so it doesn't really matter what I do.. if it's meant to be it'll happen. Hahaha usually I only use the word destiny (or 'meant to be') afterwards.. when it already happened.. *grin*.. like when I didn't get that really cool job or sth -Oh well, just wasn't meant to be- ... Orrr to make myself less nervous (for instance) about something -Ok don't stress. If it's meant to be it'll happen-

Don't know really.. I'll probably find out right before I die (hahaha or after).. And actually.. Would it really matter? Would you change your actions/behavior if you knew destiny did (not) excist?

lol...
I think you're right...in the end, it won't matter if there is destiny or not, it will be about looking back at my life and knowing that I lived well, had a positive effect on as many as I could, and enjoyed more than I lamented.
Destiny does seem to make a good scapegoat. Comforting at times, when it wasn't meant to be. I do believe that what I do matters. All I can do is make goals, work towards them, and hope I find what I want along the way.
Thanks for sharing, Sxy. Made me think
