Inequity of Women's Virtue

prejudice: the inequity of women's virtue: eighteenth-century origins, twenty-first century ramifications.

in weighing the virtue of a woman against the loss of her virtue in a , the prejudice of men would always find the woman, not the man, the guilty party.
since men controlled all the various power institutions of the eighteenth-century (law, religion, education, science, biology, medicine, philosophy, domestic environment, social situations and government), a woman to be found not guilty in this rather large patriarchy was highly unlikely.
a woman's long-standing virtue in eighteenth-century England could never outweigh a man's prejudice and vice.
just one incident of vice or bad behaviour could forever tarnish a woman's reputation.
men, in controlling all the major institutions, could control a woman as well as they could control a piece of machinery or property.
during the eighteenth-century, women were treated as property, chattel.
men women as they had learned to the land.
once men were through with a particular good section of land, they would either abandon it as if it were a woman, or they would rent it out to others by selling it to the highest bidder.

what has changed since then now that we are in the 21st century...?

We've come along way baby...NOT. One in five women are sexually molested by the time they reach the age of 18. The United Nations believe this stat is actually more than that because of lack of reporting because of the stigma and shame the victim feels. Nine out of ten prostituted women were sexually molested. When arrested, traditionally the prostituted women gets the stiffer sentence and usually the john (the one fiancing the destruction of the woman and funding drugs and the destruction within the community) is let go or gets a slap on the wrist. prostitution is the oldest oppression in the world and men have been labeling, making, and contributing to this oppression since the beginning of time. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for your wonderful one.

dear lilsquirt,
yes, women have been and still get the brunt of the burden when it comes to inequity.
and i do treat women as well as i can.
do i make mistakes?
of course i do, i'm human.
but i try to communicate honestly as much as possible before and after the fact.
that's the basis of all good relationships, isn't it?
