Mistakes and Apologies

To err is human.............to forgive divine!

I think that this should be amended to:

To err is human.......to apologise spiritual.......to forgive then divine!

We all make mistakes in life, I've certainly made my fair share! But the purpose of mistakes in life is to learn from them and I think that the first step to learning from them is acknowledging you were in the wrong. That lets you see where your mistake lies so that you can process this and adapt your thoughts and behaviour accordingly. We all have a great capacity to learn, spend our whole lives doing just this. Sometimes we have to make the same mistake over and over again, it's like the universal wake up call that something isn't right in our lives, before we can even see the truth behind it. Sometimes we even justify our behaviour on the strength of others, hiding from the truth as it brings us uncomfortably close to an aspect of ourself that we do not like, makes us see ourselves flaws and all - and that can be an incredibly hard thing to do. An apology, whether it be to someone else or even just to yourself depending on the circumstances, lets the growth process begin. Yet it has to be an honest, truthful apology - no point in saying it when you don't mean it.

i, for one, don't believe in mistakes. all of our motions and actions are preordained in prior lives. sometimes we are destined to live a life several times. confronted with the same problems, the same situations, and the the same concearns. its not what we do with our lives that matters..... but, how we lived in our life. so never see anything as a mistake, but as another line in the walk of life.

GOTD - thanks but I don't think one can ever be a mistake, we are all special, even if at times it doesn't feel like that.

P43452 - yeah i do think we live our lives experiencing the same problems, situations as the previous one. That's cos we didn't learn from it previously and are not yet able to shut the door on that part of our lives. But yeah, there are no such things as mistakes per se in this sense, only experiences and it is what we do with these experiences that counts. If we view them negatively then they are a mistakes, positively lets us learn and move on to better things.

One door closes, another always opens and it's up to you whether you stay by the closed door or go through the open one.

One of the things that make me laugh is when some says "its all cause of YOU that I had to do that"..... its the rationalisation of responsibility at its best! these ones can never ask sorry, even if they do they make you feel guilty about them apologising.... dont know if i am making sense now.... see ya

ErotiKat. It is important to make mistakes. It's part of learning. Sometimes it is good to try things out, where there might be several outcomes. One or more of the out comes might be better than the others. But the one that didnt work - the so called mistake, is an important part of informing you and giving you a broader picture.

But mistakes that you didn't want, "Ouch", we should learn from that. For instance, falling for a partner who treats you badly, (Lots of people do it over and over again. It's not something I would do and I don't really understand it) but why do people repeat those mistakes? Then its time to work harder to fnd out why it happens and maybe seek some help.
