Ladies and flowers

Ladies, What are your views on gentelman bringing you flowers on dates or as a suprise at work? Is this attractive to you, does it matter, do you dislike flowers ?

Ive been in relationships where the lady JUST treasured them unbelievably, So therefore i bring them to her house just to see that warm smile,or ill send someone to bring them to her office so she would have a wonderful day....

Yet ive been in other dates and relationships where the lady treats a flower like a 6 year old treats clothes for Christmas, just sets in on the table(without a vase i mind you) without a smile and moves on.

Whats your view ? How much is too much ? How little is to little ? For those who are flower fanatics, whats your choice of preference ?

Giving me flowers is unnecessary. Flowes die. I would rather have a man show me he cares with a small kind gesture. Maybe a handmade card, or a poem, something that took some time and thought. Although i do look at flower giving as being thoughtful on the mans part, i would rather have something that i can keep as a momento.

I love simple bouquets... wild flowers... things like that, soft flowers.. roses are for things like Birthdays, anniversary, engagement. Things like those.. but I would still perfere tulips, adffs, primroses, lilacs.. simple.. and they smell awesome T

Cute to me there are different levels of how many flowers one should get. Example. A first date I had with a guy he brought a dozen roses. Although, I absoltely LOVE roses, I thought a dozen on the first date was a bit too much. To me it looked as if he was trying too hard. One would have been sufficient and would have impressed me more. Any other flower, I love them all, but in small quantities. One or two, a bud vase... etc., but not a garden in the beginning of a relationship. As a relationship progresses and feelings are reciprocated, then more flowers can be appreciated.

My sister loves dozens and dozens and dozens of roses, first date or any date. If she gets less she is offended.

Hmm... i know a guy in Portland who was interested in a woman and bought her $200 worth of flowers (in a handblown glass vase... that was why it cost so much) and delivered them to her work with a note asking her to dinner. that, i believe, is major overkill... especially as that was one of their first dates if not THE first. although i love flowers, something that extravagant would have freaked me out a bit. (on the other hand, i also felt a bit envious).

as mentioned, though, i love flowers. my 3 most memorable bouquets... when i was 14, my cousin (we had major crushes on eachother) brought a bunch of hand-picked wildflowers in a cup he took from grandma's. i never see an indian paintbrush plant without smiling from memories the second memorable... a guy rode his bicycle thru the drive-thru to deliver me one long-stemmed red rose while i was working. the third... same restaurant... a guy i had just barely started seeing drove from another state to deliver me a dozen long stemmed red roses... told me 'i really like you, and hope you have a nice day" then turned around and drove back. again... given right in front of co-workers and customers. a great big 'aaaaaawwwwwww!" moment.

i think what makes those stand out over other times i've received flowers is that... they came totally out of the blue and unexpected. i mean, if a guy was picking me up for a date and brought flowers... that's common. i'd still love them, but it's not quite the same.

How much is too much? i'm not sure there is such a thing. but if i start feeling guilty over the killing of roses, or wasted $ that you could use or that could better help poor ppl of the world, then it's too much. Too little would be... no flowers at all, or only after i let it be known that i want flowers. or if they're given only to placate me or somehow have personal gain.

Hmm... if anybody wants to send me flowers... i love pink roses haha. (the ones i bought myself last week are about dead). sorry my post is too long *blush*

I love getting flowers Boney used to get them for me all the time, but for something that has no tangible purpose and dies in a day well we can't afford it so I had to explain to him that he couldn't keep doing it so I don't get flowers very often any more,

a single rose is just beautiful.....

I love flowers, however it's always stuck in my mind when I overheard my sister-in-law tell her 5 yr old "remember, the moment you pick a flower it begins to die."

After that I've felt guilty. Take me to see a beautiful garden and it will me more to me than anything.

kscountrygirl-quoted : The thought behind this is I figure the man who gives me the wild flowers actually took the time to pick 'em instead of running into a store and grabbing a bouquet.

This makes VERY good sense, and i do see your point *takes yellow notepad out and writes* wild flowers, hand picked,-non store wrapped, picked from the heart. excellent feedback thank you.

Flowers do come and go and sometimes very quickly, A handmade card or a poem and something that took time from the heart is always rewarding to the reciever, and aLSO to the giver to see that ear to ear smile. very well said-Thank you.

Yet this is a great insight for the futer, thank you

(your address can be posted and sent to my mail box, yet just dont be too suprised if you recieve a micky and minnie mouse object holding a flower that once was there, but now is missing.

ExploreMore4Me- Oh how WONDERFUL ! a gardner, I was going to do a blog on those who were gardners and for those who were just starting to garden later this week !

Enjoying being a photogropher and enjoying flowers, do you ever combine the two ? If so what kinds of pictures of scenerie do you take with these pics ?

flowers that speak volumes, what an excellent metaphor. A gentleman who brings one or two, or 5 would it matter on the first or second date ? or it just the thought of him thinking of you with flowers makes all the diffrence ?

frbnkslady-Excellent, a lady who knows her flowers and what she likes ! *takes my notepad and writes this all down* I would have to agree and say roses are very nice and beautiful, yet THEY ARE way to common for birthdays , anniversaries and such.

Flowers that smell wonderful, I know there are plenty-yet if you had a choice what would smell the greatest to you ?

duststormdiva-a donzen roses on the first or second date is overkill, gotchya and that makes sense, for some there is a thing called "to much" or "trying to hard".

Have you made responses with your sister about her being offended ? If so what does she say, she deserves more ?

I love flowers! It's been YEARS since I got any from anyone but myself! I am not as fond of roses as some women are. I love the wild flowers too, but my favorites are lilies.

I think a dozen roses on a first date are too much. Not that it has ever happened to me, but I think that would put me on guard because that seems like a bribe rather than a romantic gesture.

Not all who wander are lost.

demonicsexkitten-first of a all a post in this corner of blogland is never to long, write as much as you want, I LOOOOVE to read, so whether its one or 5 paragraphs long, its no bother to me, ill read them all the same.

Its true though as you said, flowers that are given on dates are very expected as of suprise flowers out of the blue and unexpected are so rewarding to recieve.(especially on a bad day)

Those were very wonderful stories, thank you for sharing, just on a side note, working the 3rd shift is not always easy, it can be tiring and hard on the sleep when you get home. Yet recieving the flowers on the drivethrue probably made a smile on your face for the rest of the night......pink roses you like ? hmmm

wyvernrose-thank you, flowers tend to die faster than the money goes in the bank-Maybe if you suggest him picking a wild flower for you, and you show your appreciation this way, he will do it more often, and therefore a spark interest and routine from him will form !...well we can dream right ? A single rose is just beautiful indeed

Theflinkychick- Wild flowers are indeed awsome, In todays society red roses are way to common and seem to be less pleased than recieving a wild flower or one with beautiful colors and smell.

a dozen roses seems more like a bribe, then a gesture-very interesting-will definetly keep that in thought. And if i may ask Theflinkychick why has it been years since recieving a flower ? Is it the men you have been seeing or is the men your NOT seeing ?

You know, I never received flowers in my life until probably 8 or 9 years ago. I remember the first time, my sweetie at the time was running late to meet me because of work. He'd called and let me know, so wasn't any big deal. When he showed up he handed me a single red and white rose. It was something that he did, just because and it was very special to me. I still have that rose, dried and on a shelf.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

i adore being giving flowers from a simple single rose,to a bunch, but the older i get the more i appreciate a plant pot as then they will last longer and not die, plus having a cat that loves to eat any fresh flower delivered to my home, makes life a littl rough, she will know the vase over to get to them

[blog DaphneR]-perfect ! I believe your the 2nd person who mention about saving their flowers ! Why ? because it was a special moment for you, and that flower ment something. And to keep that flower and to maybe pull it out every once in awhile to explain the story to somebody or for your own rememberance. None of the ladies i had relationships did this, yet I know that my mother did this and has quite a few of my fathers flowers that were given to her when he was alive. She pulls them out for diffrent reasons, yet all the same in remembering that they were given to her.

great post, thanks for responding

[papyrina]- What an excellent idea ... a plant pot ! I honestly think your the only person mentioned a plot plant, fantastic! My Sister has a cat who does the very same thing....well her cat likes to get into everything else as well, she had to buy a bread holder with a lid cause cat likes to tear open the bag and knock it on the floor and we all know the rest, yet cats are silly, but soooooo adorable.

What specific plot plant do you enjoy the smell and the touch and the look the most ?

I love flowers, and they're more special if it's for no reason, no special day, just flowers... My favorites to get aren't roses, but I think I'll be mysterious and not say what my favorite flower is. The man who brings me these unbidden (especially the right color) would win my heart in a moment.

I sometimes buy a little bouquet for myself, for the house or the office. Once, when I worked at a grocery store, a customer came up to me and handed me a small bouquet of them. He said he had seen me buying them once and thought I deserved to have them given to me for a change... I was so touched by that!

AZ, looks like I'll have to figure out how to link this post in my blog...

I think it is rude to treat any gift as inconsequental. After all it is the thought that counts. I like flowers. But they do indeed die. I have heard of saving the peddles for a sachat. But who has the time?
So for me, I like practical use items. On Valentines Day, for example, there are chocolate foil wrapped candy shaped like flowers. YUM! I imagine there are other holidays these are sold as well. But if given flowers, I would be just as apprecitive.

My husband won me over by handing me, one by one, 2 dozen "paper" roses while I was bartending. He made them out of bar napkins. (old trick ~ but they were cool). Flowers are nice to receive now and then. I try to have fresh flowers in my house ALL THE TIME!

Reminds me of a fave poem -
Please don't send me roses
I'd never readjust to receiving only daisies.

(although, I personally love daisies!)

Yagotta get it soft and wet so we can kick/stick it

i absolutely adore red roses and i don't mind them anyday and anytime. i don't care how many he wants to gimme but i'd tell you this about myself, i love the more the better. that's how much i love red roses and guys bringing them to me. the most i had was 100 stalks and i'd still want more however, one stalk of red rose means as much as the 100 stalks as well. it's the thoughts that count and that the guy isn't ashamed of bringing girls flowers.
