Age is not a game

So let me tell you a story about me.

Way back in the day, my first year in college, there was this girl I liked. For a while, she liked me back, but eventually I screwed it up. But, having seen one too many romantic movies, I believed that if I kept pursuing her, she would be interested again.

So I call her for her birthday just to say happy birthday, and we talk for about 3 minutes. Then she has another call. She switches over, then switches back and tells me it's her uncle and she will call me right back, is that ok? I, being a complete dumbass who can't read any signals at all, of course say sure.

She never called me back.

It was the last time I talked to her on the phone, but not, unfortunately, the last time I would be tricked by a girl.

See, the hot woman from my March 27th post sent me a message saying that she had read my blog, found me to be mature for my age, sorry for judging me based on my age, blah blah blah. Fair enough, not like I've never made a mistake. So we talk, we flirt, she gives me her number and says call the next day.

Hot Woman (1/1/2006 7:41:07 PM): well, hun, I REALLY have to get to my run...but seriously, let me know what your schedule is like, and I will beck & call you all over the place
corrupt_me_79 (1/1/2006 7:41:53 PM): I'm free all this week, and off work tomorrow
Hot Woman (1/1/2006 7:42:28 PM): oohhh...what time tomorrow???
Hot Woman (1/1/2006 7:42:46 PM): I have the eye Dr., so I might have some free time
corrupt_me_79 (1/1/2006 7:43:25 PM): name it... if you wanted to beck and call all day, I couldn't refuse
Hot Woman (1/1/2006 7:45:15 PM): I gotta run...I'll try to catch you here after?? Otherwise, I'm (I'm not posting her number) try me sometime tomorrow?

I think we all know how this story ends.

Not even a phone call. I left a voicemail, and that's it. Haven't heard from her since. Not even on messenger.

So it's been two weeks, and I think that counts as a second brush-off. And while I'd like to believe that the games go away as we get older, I guess the simple truth is that they don't.

Look, I'm not interested in games. Period. I do what I say I'm going to do, I'm up front and honest, and that's really all I expect out of the people I talk to. I believe the fun will take care of itself. Is that truly that unrealistic?

Sometimes I think so.

P.S. I don't for one second believe that this behavior is more common in one gender than the other. Games are for insecure people.
