Free to call them on it

I've posted comments on several other members' blogs in which I tried to provide a counterpoint to statements that I felt were sexist or simply unfair.

I just don't like it when either sex puts down the other catagorically (unless it's in jest, of course).

Statements like (to paraphrase) "When is a man going to actually be honest?" really set me off.

I don't believe that either sex has the upper hand when it comes to honesty, fidelity, intelligence, bravery, or any other personality trait I can think of. Apparently there's some scientific evidence that on the whole women can withstand "more" pain than men, and I have no evidence to the contrary. But I don't know of any "evidence" that either sex is superior when it comes to just being people.

You're welcome to comment on that, of course, but I'm not really looking to start an argument. I'm just saddened by the number of blogs I've read in which people have used the fact that they've been disappointed by the opposite sex as an excuse to put down the entire sex.

And I'll continue to call people on it. I know people are free to write what they want on their blogs, and I'm free to not read it. But I'm also free to read it and comment on it.

I agree..although I've probably done it a time or two myself. I'll have to go back and re-read my posts now lol. I've always said, and I maintain the fact that not all men are the same, nor are all women.

I know how you feel. All generalizations are worthless, and the people that make them are all...well, you know.

Hey, thanks for stopping by everyone. Julie, you're a new face. Hello. Except I can't see your face...

The hunt for sexism continues. I just came across another anti-male blog entry yesterday. The sad thing is, most of these comments seem to come from bloggers' frustrations about isolated incidents, not from true hatred of the opposite sex.

If only they could see that being tolorant of both sexes will most likely enable them to have MORE sex (and possibly better sex) -- which I'm sure is why they're on this site in the first place!

You MEN are all the same!
Although I'm very aware of how generalizations of ANY kind are completely inadequate, unfair and WRONG WRONG WRONG, I will sometimes decide I hate ALL men, instead of just the one, two, or three that might be making me miserable at that moment.
The good news is, I'm not so stupid that I actually believe they are all guilty of doing me wrong, MEN are not a Borg-like entity, all working together to piss women off. They do just fine on their own.
But, seriously, as much as I like to joke about it, most people are above generalizing. It's a person's own inadequacies in their self-image that makes them think that everyone else must be wrong.
