and so it begins...

So... I'm back at home after a month in Hawaii and a week in Tampa. I'm happy, the kids are happy, even the Battle-Axe is happy. (And I know why, but I'll get to that in a bit). My dog is doing great, so well in fact that the Vet has been positively fawning over the speed and completeness of her healing, calling the other vets and tech's in the office to come see it...

Perhaps I'm getting a little ahead of myself here... Lets just begin at the beginning shall we? Ok, so I get back from Hawaii to a bag of Christmas gifts. Lots of shirts and ties and underwear and stuff and junk. This makes me a happy kind of guy since I'm running a little low on decent, wearable clothes. The dog is falling over herself to be first in line for daddy's lovin... The kids are all lined up for theirs, the battle-axe is even wearing a smile and over the minor "some woman called your office phone" issue she'd got herself all wound up over back in December.

The next few days are a little blurry... Spent feverishly disassembling Christmas decorations, finishing up some much needed home improvements, getting car registrations and such done, watering and feeding the neglected plants - you know, the Honey-Dew list.

And just as I'm convinced I've got a handle on this list... Just as I'm settling in for what appears to be a decent start to the new year, the "Her on MTV" monster jumped out from under the bed and threw us into another whirlwind of crap. We're past this latest issue now by the way.

So... last Monday, I hop a plane and head to Tampa for a few days. Things finally settle out on the home front and I can concentrate on work.

Oh... just by the by... This last week - actually 2 full days of travel and 2 FULL days of meetings - passed at the same relative speed as scientists now measure tectonic plate movement... I swear I feel like I've been away for a month!

But I digress...

Home again, having spent an inordinate amount of time sitting in the Chicago O'Hare B terminal, waiting for my connecting flight to San Diego. Uhhnnnn now there's another entire blog... But, home again. And no sooner do I plop my butt (finally) down in my favorite chair but the *new* honey-dew list flutters down from on high...

It amazes me that this family survives in my absence!

"There's two cable boxes that don't work...".

"Umm ok", I says, "have you called the cable company to get them replaced?"...

"No, I was waiting for you to get home to do it..."

"Dad, my printer isn't working.".

"Umm... ok, have you turned it on? There's paper and ink? Have you called the tech support line about it?"

"No, I was waiting for you to get home to do it..."

"The yard man has been coming every week instead of every other week..."

"Umm... ok, did you tell him not to come every week?"

"No, I was waiting for you to get home to do it..."

Can you see the pattern emerging?

These people better pray I don't up and die on em... They'd be living in the stone age...

I know, I know... Everyone's got their side to this kind of stuff. Every side of the story is right. I know... But yanno, it'd be great if I could actually come home once in a while and find the plants NOT dying of thirst and the burned out light bulbs actually replaced... Just once it'd be great to just sit down, enjoy a beer and relax with the family...

Just once. Is that so much to ask?
