My Fishies

Ok so I went down to the local "warehouse" petstore and got a bunch of koi. Ok, so I paid for them... the woman-child picked them out from a big 50 gallon tank of them. Hell, all I knew at the time was they were really big goldfish. Appearantly I was somewhat naive...

I've been reading

So, fish two and fish six. Aptly named because they're the umm... second and sixth fish... a 4 inch and 6 inch sandan Kohaku - Pictured here.

Kohaku is considered to be the epitome of nishikigoi. The name is composed of characters for red and white, the colors of the Japanese flag and the ones held to be the most beautiful in koi ponds. The appreciation of koi is said to begin and end with kohaku.

"Sandan" means three steps. The pattern of the red on the white appears in three distinct patches, with the first normally beginning on the head, the second toward the middle of the back, and the third roughly in the tail region.

Next are fish one, three and four and five.

Showa Sanshoku

The name Showa sanshoku refers to a three-colored (san-shoku) koi developed during the Showa period in Japan. Genetically, it is a black fish, with red and white coloration appearing on the black. The black, or sumi, must appear in bands rather than spots, and some must be present on the face.

Fish seven is Yamabuki Ogon

A koi that is solid yellow in color is known as yamabuki ogon, or simply ogon. This is one of the most common types of koi, and one of the easiest to produce.

and fish eight... the oddity of the bunch... I cant find a reference to it besides "Platinum Ogan". She's a beautiful little metalic silver lady and almost as psycho and "Norman" was...

LOL digs, not all the fish have to eat other live fish! That costs a lot more also...you can feed the meateaters frozen fish or dried shrimp etc., It all depends on the type of fish you buy and what kind of tank you want to have...if you've not got a pond, that is...

BTW, WHAT PIC??? I feel cheated!!
