Insomnia 03 -- Karaoke Versus the Blog

Or is it Joe versus the Volcano?

Ever sing karaoke? I have. Although I’ve never done it sober. I’m not sure if I could. There’s usually a lot of alcohol involved when people sing karaoke. Good thing! Because if you’re not smashed when you hear me sing, and you don’t have earplugs, you are in for some serious pain and suffering.

And face it, even though everyone cheers in the bar for everyone who sings, some of them sound like crap. Like me. And some sound wonderful, just like pros. And everything in between.

The last time I did karaoke in a bar, I was just lit enough to get up there. A couple whom my friend and I were with both sang. My friend said “no way in hell, don’t even think about trying to get me up there.” So I’m getting closer and closer on the list. And damn, right before me, this gorgeous young woman gets up there and sings a Shania Twain song that makes all the women cry and all the men’s dicks get hard. I think she even had a backup singer or two. Thought I was in a recording studio, it sounded that nice. Then it’s my turn. “Gene, come on down!” I pick up the mike and say, “how am I gonna follow THAT?” I sing “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen. Badly. Hey HEY! But everyone is forgiving as hell and claps. I expected tomatoes.

Maybe blog land, and not just A-F-F but all web log land, is one big karaoke bar for writers. The people in the bar like to write, or most of them anyway. Some could record their own music (publish their writing), it’s so good. Some are just putting stuff out there to see who listens. Some are practicing. Some are just having a good time with their buddies and decide to get up on the writing stage. And some are fingernails on the chalkboard, like me. But damn, we have an audience!! Yeah! But unlike karaoke, the audience can sing back at the singer. Is that cool or what?

Thanks for listening to me sing. I love to hear you sing too. Can I buy you a drink?

Vodka martini, shaken not stirred, 2 olives.

I think the fact that we keep coming back means either you are good (and you are) or we are all about the pain. I don't like pain except maybe an occasional case of blue balls and I'm sorry but you don't give me those.

Bond, James Bond. I mean, ru. Whew! Never had blue balls, is that anything like having your tit in a ringer? You're good too, thanks. You gotta get that top 100 list going.

Sil: would that be smoking or non-smoking?

Bunz: Rrrrrar!! << cat howling. I hope you were NOT talking about a drink. Sex on the beach, in the moonlight.. Waves, wind, smell of salt.. A blanket... Damn I'm gonna howl!

Mouse: LMAO! Hey hun I have some 100 year old tequila that my daughters boyfriend brought me back from Mexico. He's Mexican so this is the REAL deal. You can even drink this stuff on the rocks it is SO smooth, no groceries or salt required. And yeah, this poor kid's face twists and you hear a twinge when he sees a bottle of Jose.

BF wonderful analogy!
Actually your "songs" in blogland are top rate dont kid yourself, your just an undiscouvered literist..really.Maybe this is your practice session.

I ponder many subjects I want to write about but not willling to take the time it takes right now to do so. Saving my energy for the childrens book I plan to write!
I sing better than I write, but hoping to write as well as I sing.
Keep up your kareoke writing luv...A drink or two always makes me more creative as well.
