Life, Love, And Voyeurism

In light of caressmewell's writing competition, here is just a little something.

Life, Love, And Voyeurism

A man runs his life away on a treadmill in one window
While in another, a man on the edge of panic
Looks over his dwindling finances and smokes heavily.
In one window, a neighbor beats his wife with a dress shoe.
They argue a lot. They yell. He drinks. She cries.
While in another, a boy sets a mouse trap for his little brother’s fingers.
In one window, a guy plays with himself incessantly. He likes the sears catalog.
In another, a woman cries alone and contemplates joining a religious cult,
Where she will later give away her possessions and do herself in when the comet comes.
In one window, a man franticly cleans away evidence
of a loud and abrasive prostitute who had spent the night,
And hopes that his wife doesn’t notice his open sores.
In another window a guy violates his parole by looking at photos of his only daughter.

Its not these windows that I fear the most as I sit here,
its the dark windows without light or the shades pulled.
What unspeakable horrors go on there?
What dark and diabolical things reside there?
People empty, cold, and soulless too sinister to leave on the lights.
People who live in despair and plot and plan misfortune
Like roaches they will scatter in the light.
I sit in fear and my imagination soars and I lose sleep.
Contemplating these many and dark windows.
What goes on there? What the hell goes on in there?
My imagination soars and I lose sleep as I sit in fear
Behind my own dark window.

Iagree with skyking, at first I got paranoid about what might have been being said about my hiding my "evil that vikings do" and then it turns out you were pointing a finger at your own self.... though even I'm certain that behind my drawn shade of playa hatin', gun collectin', zipper mask wearin, obsessive masturbationin', it's still not as bad as the pediphile papa (is that supposed to be r. kimball and his passion flower tipadee? she writes a mean comment you know, well not for you but....)
*Holds up score card* 9.7

"Sunshine is the ultimate disinfectant." I don't recall at the moment who wrote said that quote. But it is true.

viking...even though I pointed the finger at myself, you should still remain paranoid. Not only do we know about your playa hatin' gun totin' zipper mask wearing, masturbatin' to pictures of M.I.L.F.s lifestlye...so does the FBI, IRS, CIA, and ATF. They're on to you....they're on to you good.

jak...loved you in king kong, man. Wow, you're right, that is a very good quote. I don't know who said it either but we're undergoing the 29th straight day of rain here. I think we need some sunlight to clense away these sins.

I think many a night someone has thrown something down upon your window. You live below people and they try to peer into your window as they walk by. Perhaps that is why you have the lights off or the shades drawn. I for one know that sometimes I couldn't stand not having the lights on, unless there was someone else in the dark with me.

BTW, It was Jim Hodges that said "Sunshine is the ultimate disinfectant"

Were you watching "Rear Window" when this came to you...my all-time favorite...this is better, darker. I loved it.

seeker...no, I wasn't watching Rear Window at the time, but that one is one of my all time faves.

I think the first image of this poem came to mind when I watched a guy on a treadmill who didn't seem too happy about it. I thought about what people do that they regret and the rest just fell into place.

I enjoyed your question because it forced me to think about the origins of what I wrote. I like that. Thanks.

docdirk...thank you for stopping by. I you wished you wrote something like this, then try to scare yourself in your writing. if you're not afraid to post something, then maybe it needs tweaking. You'll find your writing to be edgier if you scare yourself silly.
