Try the new v3.0 Instant Messenger before we release it

Ok, don't tell anyone but we are secretly getting ready to launch our new version 3.0 of our instant messenger. Our team has really improved the last version - the 3.0 version is far more stable than the last with all the current features. It also has MUCH better webcam and sound capabilities. As the software has been 100% re-written, it is now much easier to add improvements. As we didn't want to release it right before the 3 day weekend, we're going to wait until next Tuesday (probably) for a full launch. However, if the URL accidentally got out, perhaps people might give it a try... only warning is that our QA team is still doing testing on it so no guarantee that it's 100% ready.

With the new updates that arrived to the blogs yesterday (email about new posts and the most watched list) problems have accompanied them. The new posts list hasn't updated for about oh, 15 to 20 hours now. It's a shame that things aren't watched on your end for at least a few hours when something new goes in. Here's hoping your IM update doesn't take out the site.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Things are better already now, great! Even Europe on beyound midnight

But how is the new messanger? What can we see?
I'd like to see at least the location (as looking for real dates only ) and the membership (makes things easier if I know the people are able to see my profile).

Andrew,

I'm sure many people appreciate your adding new features to the site, but wouldn't a new server be more appropriate?

I have high speed internet and this website runs very slow, reminds me of dial-up speed.

You still haven't corrected the problem with the Friends Network. The Delete function doesn't work, as people still show up.

How about a chatroom strictly for bloggers?

These issues have already been addressed by other people...

Bug in the alpha release, don't know how but i managed to delete the AdultFreindFinder entry, thick i clicked on it and then changed my mind and lost it, two reinstalls have not cleared and restored, not 100% stable but now have got in. Looks a lot more stable once online. Love the smaller widows. Hopfully this will cure the scripting bug i've had for the last few days

I will report that immediately after clicking on AdultFriendFinder.com it changed to AdultFriendFinder.com when adding the new account....I went through the processing of signing on to xmatch with my AdultFriendFinder id with absolutely no prob...perhaps not a glitch just a feature? Might be a little confusing to some folks tho...

Downloaded it and ran it . Hit the AAF site selector and it dissappeared. Xmatch works for AAF? Maybe I'll reload and try again.

Downloaded it, tried to run it but AdultFriendFinder does not appear in the "Choose a site to login" window. And so it goes. As of this point in time The flash IM (cannot see what the other person types) and HTML (dozens of people show up in my "private" message center) are all but useless to me and the current stand-alone works intermittently. I do appreciate your efforts in trying to improve your product, however, it does get frustrating when things suddenly stop working. Thanks!

That is good news on the Messenger the downloaded version that is in effect now does not work well for me and never did. It would always shut down or interfere with some other program.

It would be nice trying out a new one. I have been using the old version html, that they recently updated.

Again, thanks for the upgrades.

Couple of issues with the latest release today, cams and chat windows tend to be drawn almost off screen on new, (i do have a fair number open) though to be fair this did occur in the earlier release XP SP2 on a laptop at 1920 x 1200
A number of my actual online friends do not show up (too vain to assume they are supposed to be hidden)
In my friend bar i'm now seeing age followed by null ie (33null)
The invisible to men function appears not to work and i hope this will massively improve when more move over to this release.
The recent scripting errors (masses of scrolling text and linked into chat rooms seems to have been cured.
There seems to be no way of alerting AAF of non matching profiles, wrong gender for profile from the cams
The viewer filter is now showing all sexes as null from the broacast window

something I have been wondering about for a while, maybe you can help me.

I wondered why there is a popular blogs by active response for all and then one for men. That means the guys are on two lists. Wouldn't it be fairer to just have a male and female list like you do for the most viewed/popular profiles.

Bye everyone, it was a blast

Andrew replies on 9/3/2006 5:20 pm:
Hard to always be "fair" As there are more men than women on this site, it is hard to show popular men without their own section (we do similar for couples if you long in as a couple).

As another suspected bug / network delay. I get the notification that someone is paging me, I can wait then several minutes before the window is available to chat (I have to revert to paper via cam (high tech ah)to tell them i'm aware and not ignoring them (and I cant see who may be watching), sometimes they leave (sometimes this is appropriate , where the window does open it takes focus, that can mean a chat session I have going one place ends up being typed into the new opened window, when it gets there.

Far too many brackets, note the programming

Couple of enhancement suggestions for the new IM, instead of '00000 is currently unavailable for chat' how about '00000 currently does not have any hands free to chat with you'. And also the honest answer, '00000 has kicked you' and eventually '00000 is only available to males/females/aliens whatever' so us poor sods don't keep getting hit on by groups were not interested'. For clarification 00000 is a metaphor for a user and i apologise to any previous of future member for nicking their handle.

I can verify Mole's reporting of:

1) cams and chat windows drawn almost off screen on new (XP SP2 fully patched)

2) Friend bar has age follwed by null (55null)

3) Invisible to men function not working?

I am glad you have come out with a new messenger, but how about fixing the one that is in the site?

With the new one, I do not like that every time someone pages me, the window pops up on top of everything.

Also, when on cam and you enter a chatroom, the cam icon does not show in the chat. Or at least it did not for me.

Found another issue with alpha 24...

on the status bar with the email count....for instance mine was flashing at one....click on it and a pull down appears....

null...
null...
null...
null...
null...
Inbox

That's exactly how it appeared, altho the icons next to each null looked like this:

1) opened and replied
2) unopened
3) opened
4) opened and replied
5) opened and replied

Hope this helps

Couple of more suggestions for the new IM enviroment.

Firstly make the Whos online and friends IM window resizable or the same length.

The Whose online age filter is buggy, my default is 18 to 45, and i have to re-apply to eliminate older members from my interest group.

Must improve the network invite for incoming, it takes several minutes to show by which time people move on cause i haven't answered. It would be good if the time out / declined tone could be different, i think someone is paging when they have declined.

Have the defaults configurable and stored either locally or online. We all know the types we are looking for, why would i want to keep having to set my preference every time i come online.

There appears to be an issue with accepted friends, i haven't been able to conclusivly prove it (shown in friends IM, but profile just shows them as online and NOT chatting), but it appears that when an invite is accepted, they arrive automatically in the friends IM list without actually being in IMC at the time, its nice to know they joined but i can't chat with them to welcome them.

More wants later when i figure them out, if your ever in need of a beta tester let me know

Hard to always be "fair" As there are more men than women on this site, it is hard to show popular men without their own section (we do similar for couples if you long in as a couple).

I didn't mean that they shouldn't havre their own list. I was talking abouthe blog list not the most popular list. Men seem to be on both lists on the blog main page. There doesn't seem to be a couple one. This isn't a personal issue for me, I just wondered why men were on both lists and women didn't have a list, per say. There is one for all, then one for men. I wouldn't say it would be unfair to split these into one for females and one for males, I also don't reckon it would be hard.

Bye everyone, it was a blast

In keeping with my rep. as being an irritating person, I'll say three things.

First, I'm baffled as to why A.F.F. wishes to compete with the experts in messanging. If M.S.N. and Yeehoo can get together, why are you trying to build your own interface? That strikes me as prima facie madness.

On to something more substantive ...

GOTDs complaint (and many other members' complaints, who are still on dialup), has to do with the fact that Friend Finder pages are enormous, in terms of the ratio between information transferred, and bytes required. A little JS could cut that ratio by 2-1, which makes a huge diffo. to dial-up users. (Might also help your bottom line *wink*) How about setting the default for groups to "no voting" ?

Last irritating remark ... many women do not care to be tracked as they visit groups. Natch, I understand that Friend Finder's marketing strategy is built upon the severe male/female ratios on the site - but an obvious consequence is that females desire to feel "safe". Tracking visited members is a way to make them feel less safe. Friend Finder already has a profile option which makes it possible for members to decline to be identified in the "Who's Viewing You?" list. The same option might be extended to those who wish to visit a group, at least if Friend Finder wishes to encourage female members to feel "safe".

Findings on IM 3.0
Locks up - unresponsive to mouse clicks - sometimes takes 2 clicks to switch windows - sometimes takes up to 60 seconds to respond.
Loads automatically on startup, even though removed from as many "startup places" as can be found.
Prompts me to load version 3.0.0 (imc_300_adult.msi) even though that has already been done.
Most windows slide off to the right so most of the window is not visible.
Apparently, does not know the sex of the people using it. Things I'm a female or that I'm looking for men.
Doesn't cascade windows. Just dumps them on top of each other.
Showing multiple users inside the (supposedly) private IM windows as does the HTML IM version.
Never get a pop-up to say that I'm receiving a message (and don't know if I'm supposed to). I just get an open IM window.

I'm uninstalling it and will try to install imc_300_adult.msi by itself.

Most windows open on the right side of the screen so most of the window is not visible.
Apparently, does not know the sex of the people using it. Things I'm a female or that I'm looking for men.
Does cascade windows, but starts on the extreme right of the screen. If you have too many windows it will throw it off the screen.

I have uninstalled this version also and will wait for the next "patch".

thanks for the new link eatu... unfortunately the new IM doesn't solve the problem I've been having for over a month now where I cannot broadcast my camera. I have called customer support several times and they tell me it is a "known bug" which should be fixed in a few weeks and the bug is on the site... well I've gone a month with my IM showing me I'm broadcasting and no one being able to open my vid, and so far IM 3.0 doesn't seem to solve this problem.

Couple of more issues relating to the latest release (no longer appears as an Alpha). All on site to me are shown as 97 miles, whether there just round the corner or in America. Friends online total only ever shows a maximum of 15. I am currently having to use the older version to identify people and then manually page them from the new version. The initial 'page' has an attrocious typematic rate, allows 20 or so letters, then appears to be unable to accept more text, it can be bypassed by typing into notepad, and then copy paste. I'm sure more later. Mole

I have been thinking about the new version 3. It obviously needs to be the standard across site, but doesn't go far enough. The mocked up graphic shows where i'm thinking it should progress to in version 4. The changes should be obvious. It visually identifies who the member will accept messages from, and therefore enables/disables the page button. The red slash indicates that the user has chosen to ignore you, and the cross indicates that you are banned from contacting the member. Accepted friends cannot be banned but can be ignored. This will mean that members will not have to be in the system as invisible. Whilst not shown here, two icons that show the person is in IMC or a chat room. This will reduce network load as members won't be paging someone who is chatting, and should join them there. The unavailable cam will never be viewable and will not be clicked on, thereby further reducing network traffic. This should make the whole site experience far more member friendly in-line with all preferences. There should also a standardization of the databases, so that the system refreshes faster, there's nothing worse than trying to page a member who is offline, but their status hasn't updated, and again this will help the bandwidth. Feel free to use the thoughts to improve your service. Mole
