Launch attempt on Monday

After another week of testing, coding, and releasing on other sites, we are finally ready to launch the upgraded groups and friend network code early on Monday. Spent the last few days adding:

Friend network
- If either side of a friendship removes the other, the "friendship" is over for both.
- "Cool New People" will now show samples of members near you who are friendly.
- Fixed testimonials so that they show up on your profile (bug).
- Fixed friends presentation on profiles so a nice selection of your friends show up.
- Friends can be sorted by Date Accepted , Last Visit, Handle, Age, Gender, Location, and Title.
- Software optimized to greatly speed up the time needed to show pages of friends (for members with more then 500 friends).
- Can remove pending and declined invites to others (sorted lots of ways including Date Sent)

Groups
- All listings of people include links to their blogs
- When viewing active members of a group, you'll only see the members who's profiles are on (you will still see posts made by them).
- Very large groups should see considerably faster page loads of group members.
- Can sort group members by Date Joined, Last Visit, Number of Posts, Handle, Thumbnail, Age, Sex, Profile Title and Location.
- Banned members should be thwarted to quit and rejoin the group.

We've also added about $100K of extra computers to handle the extra processing. I'm confident that this launch will be successful!

Update - we did our first launch attempt at noon and noticed login problems so we rolled back, fixing a few performance bugs, and will launch again mid afternoon.

Hope it fixes the friend problem I'm having where they don't show up where I can remove them because they've turned off their profile.

I see you have some very positive responses for your efforts which you have put forth to improve this site. GOOD FOR YA. I have an unrelated question. How do you approach the challenge of marketing your site on a large scale and target mainstream cosumers, with a product that has so many social taboos? The way I see it, these taboos act as a barrier preventing you to tap into the ACTUAL demand for your product. An inefficiency exists. Your product has a very high demand POTENTIAL, yet your restrictions in creating awareness of this product does not reach the consumer base that actually exists, due to social standards. How do you approach this? I have a few ideas. YOU THINK BIG?

We currently pursue multiple channels of distribution on multiple brands (e.g., passion.com). Fortunately, there is more acceptance of adult dating than when we started 10 years ago.

Awesome, can't wait to see it all unfold.

Question for you though Andrew. I'm moderating 2 groups now, and in Looking For Friendships, I do not show up in either the Member List or the Associate Member list. I noticed this because I knew I had over 100 posts to the group since its creation, but I wasn't seeing my name anywhere. Just wondering if you might know what's going on and/or how to solve it?

Thanks for your help, and thanks again for all the hard work you do. It's greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, you had mentioned immediate postings for Gold/Silver members. Is that still going to be taking place at some point?

Andrew replies on 5/14/2006 11:53 pm:
Yes, I noticed fixing that when working on the member lists - I don't know how we fixed it tho

Andrew replies on 5/14/2006 11:54 pm:
Faster posting is my goal too!

Is it also fixing the problem when a friend sticks you in a category where you do not want to be? Such as, you want them in General or Just Friends and they're deluded enough to stick you in Friends With Benefits or One Night Stands, even though there isn't a chance in hell of them getting either of those in person?

Andrew replies on 5/14/2006 11:55 pm:
Hmmm... oh, I think I removed seeing how OTHER people classify their friends - only the member can see that. Good?

Any improvements are GREAT improvements. Since I have a large number of network invites - - SPEED is the pisser when I go to clean it out....takes FOREVER to pages to be loaded. Spent 8 hours on here one day just cleaning.

THANKS for all you do!!!! {=}
