my poetry - for my son

The Death of Me

I never lived my life in a bubble
Out he came and I knew I was in trouble
As I looked at the doctor, what did I see?
Good Lord....He's a mini me
A handful for any parent to raise
My parents hex worked... for the coming days
I hope you have one just like you...they said
So he can break things, and jump on the bed
He's not bad but merely inquisitive
As you can see... my time on earth will be short lived
He keeps me on my toes
Whether playing ball or breaking a nose
His devilish smile will melt anyone's heart
Me at his age... you can't tell us apart
Knocking over the TV or breaking the clock
I'm told, he is a chip off the old block
So you see, my cup runith over with so much love
More so than getting my first baseball glove
He's not bad but always having fun
He can be no other........but my Son
