are real
and imagined
they protect and impede
are built with bricks and stones

can be destroyed by bulldozers and bombs
and sometimes a kind gesture
they are necessary

if we must build walls
let us build them together.

I have made my share of mistakes and unwilling enemies but I keep stumbling forward with hope and determination that someday amends can be made and attributed to my humanity and yours.
