I have long been interested in the intuitive aspects of the mythic experience as it relates to the human condition in the present. “The VENUS DIARIES: Seeking the Divine Consort” is an ongoing thematic series of encaustic paintings, prints and drawings that reflects my perception of the mythic qualities of the real and the ideal in the relationships that are developed between males and females. The ideal, whether environment, figure, relationship or still life, is based on subjective interpretation from both the artist and the observer, colored by historical precedents, and cultural influences. The Venus Diaries is an attempt to encapsulate twenty years of examining relationships as an ideal that we are all conditioned to seek and expect but cannot always sustain for varying reas. As in many artistic and literary representations of Venus, the ideal tends to be ephemeral and just beyond human reach. This work also suggests my ideal that every woman is a Venus. The psychological presence of Venus images deconstructs the myths of the unattainable ideal. The images bring the unattainable to something tangible, a physical representation of the impossible. The works collectively suggest the complex struggle of reconciliation between the language of the inner psyche and that of expression. The exploration also serves to elaborate the possibility of providing a model of reality that represents the desire of the divine. I experiment, study and explore what I know that I don’t know, which to me is the summation of the real and the ideal. "The VENUS DIARIES: Seeking the Divine Consort".
