Reality...Fantasy...and online endulgences.

Sh*t Happens

I've been struggling over the last few weeks to come to grips with this online world. I am not in any way targeting any person or group so please no hate messages or threats.

Notwithstanding the high impact cinematrography and special effects, the Matrix is JUST A MOVIE and we are not in some virtual experience. It seems that many delve into this world and the AdultFriendFinder site becomes their reality. This is neither good nor bad (maybe)...just an observation.

Mustang is a nice bloke and is chasing his chance to enter the blog leaderboard for popularity. Well....thats fine but lets keep things in perspective. Yes...maybe an interesting challenge and something to persue but really....shouldnt a blog be a forum to express your views, your emotions, your opinions...? It isnt some game of counting the chips you've collected. Its simply a shared medium to express yourself and shouldnt be measured on readership, comments or some arbitrary method of rankings.

And then there is this strange saga that I seem to get entangled in when reading many blogs. The saga of disappearing blogs and profiles being ammended and then blocked etc. I am amazed at the campaigns that are being raged within the blog pages to uncover the conspiracy.

WAKE UP. This is an online dating site with an average blog implementation to try and differentiate it from 20 other major online Australian dating sites. This is not a free speech forum for open exchange of ideas. Its a commercial business.

I write on two other BLOG sites for work and their BLOG implementation is wonderful, rich and comprehensive. But still has bugs. The blog system on AdultFriendFinder is a basic commercial version and should be regarded as such. If the operators (owners of the BUSINESS) want to remove profiles, edit BLOG comments, change your picture to a rabbit with pink feet then that is their right as the operator of the business. If you dont like it...move to another dating site. If you want an open blog forum the start your own then try using TypePad or some other system that costs less than $100 for your own blog. very capitalistic (or more so "non socialistic") side is coming through here. If you dont like what the owners are doing then move on. The owners have invested money, time and effort into AdultFriendFinder (an associated sites) if you dont like what they do then tough sh*t. They are the ones risking their money.

I've met some nice people online and exchange some great banter, debates and even a few enjoyable heated discussions. But at teh end of the day remember, this is an online dating site run by people who's goal is to make money and not to support "freedom of speech" initiatives. If people are saying things negative against the company or things that may impact their profit then GET REAL....thats their right to ammend or remove it. There are many "ORG" sites for open free speech.

Lets remember that online is online and must not "become" our life but a slither of time in which we use it to explore and discover new people..

Wombat I have decided to answer your posted concerns in a fresh post of my own in my blog, which I shall be writing soon. I just require a degree of think time to ensure that my response is suitably measured and fair.

Well wombat I reccon you will piss off a lot of people with this post. you'll piss off everyone who has lived in the Matrix and needs a dose of reality.

For me; I 100% agree. Some people seem to be taking some things way too seriously indeed.

1/2/2006 9:05 pm're a nice bloke and no dig at you was intended. Just amazed how seriously some people take "little things" in life.

Crystal...I hope I donty piss anyone off. Certainly not the intention at all. Maybe trying to give people a "reality check".

Frangi...I have a few really close friends I met on here ages ago. Yes...there are some great people on here. But as the friendship blossoms I believe you need to migrate to a more private forum to exchange banter (like direct email) and the meeting. 3 great friends I met online and despite initially wanting to "jump their bones" and "exchange fluids" they grew to better friends than would have been sexual partners.

I wasnt trying to devalue online relationships...I think they are fantastic forums to start a true "emotional" friendship without the tainted first visual impressions overshadowing "the person". What I was questioning was the "too serious" nature of something online that simply in the scheme of things doesnt matter.

Wombat, you lost me with the onion comment?? That one flew straight over the top and through to the keeper.

Also, I dont think your second reply to me was for me was it? I dont take any of this seriously, just the special few people that it introduced me too.
