More and More People Are Limiting or Prohibiting Comments On Their Blogs...

I read recently where someone wrote that "...the only ones i seen that don't allow posting have been trolls and nutcases".

Really? Apparently you're not looking at the same blogs I am. Regardless of what you think of me, there are some very nice people who are tired of the constant, hateful "blowing of chunks" on their blogs in the name of "freedom of speech".

(Speaking of which, just how much of an intelligent conversation can you have with someone whose most sophisticated repartee consists of endless variations on the phrase "blowing chunks"? )

Several others keep writing about how they just can't understand why anyone would ever limit comments on his or her blog in any way. Well, of course you don't: you're attention-whores who like conflict. Whatever "floats your boat", but most of the real adults on this site are not.

Another thing I see a lot is this concept that somehow we're all afraid of them. Oh, come on--why should we be "afraid" of a bunch of schoolyard nitwits who couldn't use logicical thinking to escape from a paper bag?

Others say that the reason for limiting comments to network friends is because all we want is "ass-kissing" instead of honest debate. First of all, not all of the people in my network are really what I could call friends. I don't know them that well. Secondly, many of them don't agree with a LOT of my viewpoints. The main difference between them and the excremental bloggers is that they haven't abandoned common courtesy. It's as simple as that.

Finally, a lot of people say that all you have to do is delete and ban those who are disruptive and abusive. Why should I have to bother? If this site ever turns around and actually starts to live up to the adult part of its name, so that only a tiny handful are rude, crude, supercilious and belligerent, what you say might make sense.

What I'm seeing, however, is that "blogland" is increasingly becoming more hostile and ignorant. More and more, it's being populated by the unwashed "trolls" and the little cliques that can't wait to pounce on their next "victims".

Intelligent debate? Respect? These are species that are rapidly becoming extinct.

Besides, for some of us our blogs are intensely personal enough that we don't really care to see comments. We don't mind if you read them, but we neither need nor want approval or disapproval. It's enough for us to write what's on our minds. Those of us who allow comments from our network friends do so more out of courtesy, than any "need" to garner replies.

I also have a comments and suggestions link on the group I moderate, where trusted members can post in my blog if the need arises. Before I limited my blog, I was getting lots of posts from people who were NOT members of the group, and I got tired of the annoyance.

Yes, I know there are still some thoughtful, intelligent and respectful bloggers out there. I give them my admiration, even if I rarely post comments in their blogs.

LMAO @ blowing chunks......... I agree. Some people just dont want to hear the rude remarks to begin with, and what is wrong with only wanting to hear from people who agree with you, anyway???
