Does Anybody Else Think It's Kind Of Creepy?

There are some people on this site who basically have fake profiles. You know the type: fake personal info, fake pics, etc.

I've gotten used to that, and it really isn't anything I need to concern myself with, as long as I can recognize them for what they are.

I suppose this isn't really my concern either, but the ones I find really strange are those that have multiple fake profiles, which they use to have conversations with themselves in groups, blogs and magazine articles.

I find that bizarre. I am torn between laughing at them and feeling sorry for them.

Now, before anybody gets all riled up, I know of SEVERAL people who do this, so I am not just talking about YOU!

You know, writing styles are very much like fingerprints in cyberspace. It is extremely difficult for most people to drastically alter the way they write for even one sentence, because their intelligence, vocabulary and ability to use proper spelling or punctuation haven't changed.

For instance: if profile #1 thinks the word well is spelled w-i-l-l, so will profiles 2, 3 and 4; if profile #1 uses run-on sentences, so will the others. And so on.

In other words, it is blatantly obvious to any thinking person that they are talking to themselves. This REALLY gets weird when you have all of the multiple profiles holding "group" discussions--all saying almost the exact same thing and using the same misspelled words and punctuation errors!

It's like watching poorly-made clones together, and quite frankly it creeps me out!

too funny, you are, indeed, quite correct in terms of textual fingerprinting - it's very easy actually to recognize people via their style of writing/word-usage/misspellings, certain grammar aspects etc...

I haven't come across this 'dual' profile situation but I wouldn't put it past some people to do that

it is wierd, thats true. but I have noticed alot of people make the same spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes even though they are different people (in different areas of the site). like alot of guys will use 'women' instead of 'woman' for some reason...and 'well' instead of 'we'll' of course tho if it is the same people using more than one of the same mistake then its probably the same person. one thing is, how do we know they dont know how to spell? maybe they know how to spell and use mistakes to thwart people into thinking its a different person? lol lol who knows with some of these people....

I'm not sure I have run across this particular issue but misspellings are everywhere....I have a lot of men write me and I have to decode the email before I can figure out what they are trying to tell me....sad really.

kind thoughts,
Moonfire

moon, that is true..i feel like saying 'hey! there is such a thing as proofread, you know!!' If its too bad then I dont care and delete the email...cant understand it then that is all i can do...plus would want someone who could at least spell and make a sentence correctly, most of them could if they read over what they wrote before they click send...
