Hello willing,

I lived there for 6 mos. over 20 years ago when there was a boom!!!
I remembered good people...great lobster feast...winter carnivals... Go to Alberta to find Fort McMurray in the internet! It is located North of Edmonton the capital of Alberta...great wilderness area...I am sorry Hun...that is all I can offer...If you intend to live there thru the winter months...bring winter gear it can go below minus 40 celsuis...Fahrenheit means F,,,,ng cold, hehehe.

i haven't been there in a long time, but from what i hear, i hope you've got a place to live worked out...and like all boom towns, everything's so expensive that the ridiculously high wages are just enough...

good luck, my friend - i hope everything works out for ya

I lived in Edmonton, AB for 4 years and one of those winters was really cold. Fort Mcmurray, AB is 435 kms (250 miles) north of Edmonton.

You are in the deep south.

I have travelled through your area and I could not stand it in the summer. The average temp in the winter in Fort Mcmurray is around -20 celcius. If it is windy, that is very harsh conditions.

Here are some stats I found on the place.

Location: 435 Km northeast of Edmonton on Highway 63
Population: 61,000 - city and 73,000 - Municipality
Average Temperature: January -19.8 C July +16.6
Annual Rainfall: 334.5 mm
Annual Snowfall: 172.0 cm
Hours of Sunshine/Year 2108.9
Elevation: 370 m
Industries: Oil sands, natural gas and pipeline sectors, forestry, tourism, retail

I had never heard of the place before, so I did a google search on it. Housing does seem pretty expensive (I viewed the town's newspaper) but it looks like a pretty place (there are also webshots posted). Hope you enjoy being there and keep warm.

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.

I thank each and every one of you for your help!!!! Please know that I am truly grateful, and will keep you informed of the situation. As of right now I know they are paying for our housing, and I have two mustang cold weather survival suits from years of extreme weather rescue training! Still looking for a gorilla suit though! No not a monkey costume!
