Under Construction

First of all there’s a clear space in the message box. The planning team come along. Sometimes they’re pretty clear what’s going to be said in the post and just bring the whole show in from Word. Sometimes the developers just want to get anything up and running to fill a space. Times like that anything can appear in a post. You know, things like requests for your most adventurous sex venue, weirdest sex toy, list of ten favourite aphrodisiacs. These lightweight constructions go up pretty quickly and soon amuse us all, inviting comments and adding to the fun of Blogville.

Sometimes there’s a real architect at work. Careful who you hire, because these big constructions can be really BIG and you’re stuck with a heavyweight post. What do you really want to say? Are we going to have a mega-sex tale that’s going to get the juices flowing? How about something really deep and meaningful ‒ the sort of thing that you look up after construction and say, ‘Did I make that?’ Or a real-life experience that moves all our hearts, or other parts, depending. Or simply something that interests and want to wax lyrical about?

And then there are the landscapers. I like these folk, because they make Blogville habitable to the soul. They give relief to the ground and plant trees and flowers. They create vistas and views and do it with careful wordcraft and shaping of dreams. This is where the poems come from.

Before you know what’s happened a post is born!

I’m sorry if I have omitted all the other constructions that are going up all over Blogville as I post, but there’s a lot of you builders out there doing a damned fine job.

Are you trying to seduce me, Anemone???

Only if you share the champagne and chocolate.

I have played a significant part in building the organisation I now work for, from nothing to the successful venture it is today. We set it up in 1991, and despite being headhunted have never left, nor for the most part has the senior team I work as part of. What keeps me is partly the "my baby" but also the quality of relationship that goes way beyond similar places of work. That quality of relationship permeates the organisation and all its stakeholders. Furthermore it is not something that can be assumed, but has to be consciously created. Organisations are bounded cultures and need to be thought of as such. Well worth reading if you haven't read it already is Communities of Practice by Etienne Wenger.

Hmmm! How one operates in business and personal life - within business life there is a particular context that defines action, there are boundaries and rules that are different from in one's personal life. The office affair is very often disastrous because this is confused. My solving of a problem can be highly and acceptably pragmatic within a working context, but not necessarily within the different psychological and emotional context of a personal relationship.

Having said that I still believe in being true to myself, I believe that we each tread a unique path, that there is a flow which were are sensitive to and travel with, not against if our lives are to be fulfilled. I would like to think that that world view travelled with me in all aspects of my life. But I am human. It gets tested all the time.

You will take up my offer of joining me for champagne and chocolate, won't you???

~Hugs & winks~
