A Scottish Rose

There was a fresh
And dark red rose
Colour of blood
Lying alone
On the cemetery grass

It had blown from
An unknown grave
In the last gale
That ravaged
Argyllshire’s stark winter shore

Looking upwards
So beautiful
Highlands, islands
Shining softly
In the one break in the sky

I reflected
That this one rose
Marked one passed soul
Still beloved
All life’s experience now gone

It crossed my mind
That this one life
Is to be lived
Its two treasures
Time and soul-travellers

It was a powerful, precious moment and I thank you for sharing it, sweet foxy.

It was a moment frozen in time, dear Tabs. For a few minutes the sun shone its watery winter light through the south westerly clouds that had brought wind and rain earlier - and later in the day. I think it was a moment meant to happen. Thank you and I'm moved it struck a chord with you.

Thank you caress. I was struck by the poignancy of this exquisite and perfect flower that lay at my feet and the sad beauty of the cemetery at the foot of Beinn Ghuilean and overlooking the sea loch towards Davaar Island and the southern shore of Arran.
