How: Do you eat an elephant?

sometimes on our journey, challenges confront us that are so enormous, that our entire life is thrown into an uproar...."Oh...God...how do I handle this?...what do I do?...What do I do first?...What impact will this have on my life...my journey?...What impact on the lives of others?"

I'm reminded of a story of an African tribe that found it necessary to kill a rogue elephant which had been terrorizing its village. After slaying the elephant, a European visitor asked the Chief what they intended to do with the elephant. the chief responded "We will eat it." Well, the elephant was enormous...very enormous...and the visitor wondered aloud how one would eat an elephant. One of the women of the tribe, preparing the elephant carcass for cooking, remarked...How do we eat the elephant?...why...one bite at a time!" Naturally, If we apply this to the problems we face...we convince ourselves..."How do I eat this elephant of a challenge in my life?....why...one bite at a time!"

Somehow, this little story, with its intriguing answer, seems like an easy answer....but sometimes...the enormity of the challenge makes
taking the first bit hugely difficult.

I'm facing such a challenge in my life....a damn gigantic friggin elephant...and the first bite is just scaring the hair on my head white.

Tell me, how do you eat your elephants?

One bite at a time --- all the while making sure that my family and friends are right next to me --- helping me to finish off that elephant!

Life is a series of small steps to reach a goal.

From my 10th grade Math teacher:

1. What is the problem?
2. What are the solutions?
3. Solve the problem.
