The Widget

Before everyone gets on the communal soapbox and starts to pontificate on blogging morals I want to remind you of the theory of hyperreality I spun in my post Not Fantasy: Hyperreality. Some folks said I was wrong and that Blogville IS real. Since then I’ve dared to move some of my blogging friendships off the site and I have discovered they were right: my friends are real.

Now hyperreality is back. There are parallel universes here in Blogville. Look at the storm over in [post 479367]. dustywidget has gone. Who wrote that post? It belongs to TakethemoneyRUN. Find a backdoor way to ] dustywidget’s profile (it’s officially shut down) and who’s picture features there? to TakethemoneyRUN’s is: the blogland joker. Then go to Dustywidgettoo’s blog Dusty's New Blog and just read some of it and study the links in the early posts (that the backdoor I referred to above). This man/woman/couple/team is leaving clues all over blogville.

If you can’t stand the spinning get off the carousel; please enjoy hyperreality for what it is.

Soon we’ll see this array in the slots (what a lucky girl):

Jeeze. WTF?

All I know for sure is this. I want off. I do not wish to be a part of this form of blogging. I suppose we are all manipulating the site to some degree by posting, but this is too much.

I just want to blog with folks who will be straight with me.

Blog On!

I'm completely confused now, and am going to revert to my original position of not commenting at all on this. I'm going to take TTMAR's post off my blog as I can't verify how real it is.

I'm sure all this is fun for some people, but I think it is upsetting for others and just plain not understood by some (including me).

Back to real blogging...

What this all boils down to is this:
DustyWidget along with all of his aliases, need our sympathy and understanding. The poor guy can not possibly have a life. If he had a real life, with real people, he wouldn't spend so much time here, he wouldn't put forth so much effort, all of this SHIT would not mean a hill of beans to him.

I think he is to be pitied, not hated.......... really.

I'm not sure pitied is a fair sentiment either. He may do it differently than most are comfortable with but I don't think he's ever intentionally hurt anyone and is really just extending friendship in his own way. Since I grew up being considered "odd" by most of my peers I'm slow to judge someone whose style of communication or friendship seems different from the norm...

Uh huh......riiiiiiiight.

As far as the Blogland drama(s), I have largely just not given a flying fuck anymore. There has always been drama, and there will always be drama. (Right?) I'm not one to attach a badge of creative praise when decpetion or manipulation is involved, but if people can go to bed at night feeling good about getting one up on people, that's their cup of coffee (Right?). What it does, unfortunately, is give new bloggers the wrong impression of what this place is at it's best, and gives the old bloggers another reason to do things like papy stated above: stick to the bloggers they know and trust. Doesn't allow for a whole lot of community building, but whatever.

There have been disapperances, fantastic deaths, people going out in blazes of glory during maiming fatal accidents and miraculous rebirths from the dead (right?) since I've been here. Not really my cuppa tea. Give me real people's lives, loves, hates and joys anyday of the week. It might be more "boring" than sensational stories "Hyperreality: great term", but I can read the tab rags for those. I like humans as they are.

bolded parts included for purposed emphasis.

i must have a six sense about all this stuff, cos the weird thing i never visit the blogs of any of these people who've turned out to be fakes. nevertheless my head is still spinning!

the exposure of fakes seems to be becoming an almost weekly occurence now. actually, i feel vindicated whenever these fakes are exposed cos they keep being bloggers that i've read and something about them doesn't sit right with me.

hope i don't get fooled anytime soon!

just to comment on your first point about wether or not blogsville can be condusive to real friendships. I tyhink you were right in the first place in that you were only able to confirm something after meeting them in the skin so to speak.
As far as everything else goes, its like saying books or the media are this or that in the simplistic generic sense. Subjectivity, relativity and so on, play a role. Besides the context.
As far as you go waggypolly, I can confirm, I'm in love. Thpough it worries me your old enough to be my mother. But here on blogsville i can ignore that!

waggypolly replies on 8/24/2006 9:37 pm:

In the hyperreal world I can really enjoy you being in love with me.
Should this carry over into RL it'd be quite different; I simply don't date guys the same age as my son.
So long as you and I both remember the difference between HR and RL things are great. If we confuse HR and RL and expect too much of each other or others, then trouble and disappointment starts. I see it so often in Blogville but it always surprises me that people get the two domains confused.

Polly, have not studied this, but feel I have prematurely judged DW by being influenced by the comments of another blogger and fellow countryman of his who dislikes him immensely, but for what reason I do not know! The whole business confuses me and so the best thing to do is not to take it seriously, I guess!

waggypolly replies on 8/25/2006 3:28 am:

I reckon he's disliked because he's flippant and has been immensely successful. He refuses to take Blogville seriously and others do. I didn't feel I could get close to him, when I realised he was a joker I understood why: he wasn't blogging to look for connection. I feel closest to those who do that. But I can still enjoy the humour.

Polly.....what an incredible post. Dusty's main blog is gone....but I have always known he had several, if not more, handles and blogs here. Don't ask me how......but I knew....and he knew that I knew. I also have heard others say that he was behind the Cliticals....and with his mind and imagination.....I guess that's possible. Wouldn't surprise me, would it you? And what a laugh he must have gotten out of that one if indeed it was true! Heck.....he could be economickrisis as well! lol

waggypolly replies on 8/25/2006 5:48 am:

I knew you thought something was up, but I wasn't sure what, or why. Re the cliticals - if you go to economickrisis he is claiming responsibility for The Clits. It's obvious to me that Widget is British and Krisis is Australian (since I am both I can tell). This predisposes me to think that they are different people. But it could be someone with a similar nationality split to mine. Anyway have you met bustydidget yet?

[bog economickrisis] has just done an excellent post on laughing at oneself, giving lots of examples from Britain and Australia. I posted a comment about how he hadn't mentioned any Americans and it is the Americans who are upset by all the "drama". Frankly I think it's hilarious, a great send up.

Anyway, did you post this comment just before you left home, or as soon as you got to work?

Just an observation that sometimes the clues are really probably site coding foul ups. Like the My Blog phenomenon and my picture showing up on the Clitical's blog; made me wonder if anyone else had clicked on it simultaneously if they would have seen my pic for that blog at the same time.

Realize that might seem far fetched but I've noticed other very briefly lived oddities, they seem to be more often associated with site updates and/or unknown phenomena when the whole site slows down and gets weird.

Went to Curious' blog the other day and a post showed up which linked a hidden post of her own blog but didn't sound like she wrote it. I was sure a hacker did it, pinged a friend of mine who went and looked to verify my eyes weren't deceiving me and he didn't see it. When I refreshed my own page, sure enough it was gone.

Still wondered about the hacking thing until I went to 1Hotwahine's blog and it was HER post. Which temporarily had appeared on Curious' blog.

Dasher's blog totally disappeared once after he did a series of posts linking numerous blogs. I am no coder, but I am thinking that sometimes these similar commands overlap or otherwise get confused when they are being uploaded and executed in the main frame, so to speak.

I use a huge online data system where I work that occasionally a function will suddenly cease working for no apparent reason, after troubleshooting with site occasionally a piece of coding has disappeared. I assume that someone was doing maintenance and either accidentally deleted it or somewhere in the backing up process all the codes didn't back up properly.

Of course, it could be hackers or site employees fucking with our heads but I am inclined to think that alot (or all of it) may still be innocent coding screw ups; likely the nature of the beast in an interactive blogging system of this size.

waggypolly replies on 8/25/2006 3:30 pm:

You are right that the recent site maintenance has produced a lot of this type of screw up. You can't follow links I posted because the blogs are taken down now. But the links were my proof and the author had posted subtle little cues through his blogs. Plus he left comment for me telling me I was smart. So I do think I'm right about him.

The only blogs that I follow regularly are the honest ones. I ususally ignore the hyperdramas. even if take is dusty, he was there for a shoulder to cry on. I dont think anyone was really hurt by is loudness. I havent heard from dusty for a long while, and take either, so i guess he moved on?
