Peanut Butter Time

I had a change of pace this morning. Before I went to work I made a jar of peanut butter - and some fresh soy milk too. I like to ground myself by doing things like this in a kitchen and I enjoyed them with home-baked rye bread for breakfast.

Then I hopped onto the web and, because our Friendly Site was doing a slow dance, I didn't write comments on your latest posts; I looked at some other sites instead. And this is what I found:

Regarding peanut butter: I learned from a site called PeanutButterLovers that in the USA "It contains, by law, a minimum of 90% peanuts."
I'm happy to report that my peanut butter contains 100% peanuts and absolutely nothing else.

Regarding soymilk: I learned from another site, called WhiteWave, that "It comes from beans. Vast herds of beans. Soybeans. And while soybeans used to roam the plains, now they're confined to fields on farms. Kind of like cows."
I'm happy to say that - apart from boiled water - my soymilk is 100% soyabeans.

I'm still worrying about the extra 10% in the commercial brands of peanut butter.

I like the phrase you used "I like to ground myself". I may borrow it from time to time if you don't mind. I have a woodshop I use much the same way.

Didn't have any idea anyone still made their own PB or soymilk for that matter. You are indeed a very talented lady.

Another one here concerned with the other 10 percent, as well as the list of 'other' ingredients most foods have in them today. Not sure one should consume what one can't pronounce.

I love peanut butter. I have a friend who makes her own almond butter, and it is great too. I have never had it on rye bread though...and certainly not homemade rye bread. You are a woman of many talents.

And worry you should. Or more specifically I should. In addition to peanuts, my PB contains: sugar and less than 2% of molasses, fully hydrongenated veggie oil and salt. The fully hydrogenated part is the issue. Yikes!

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Peanut butter with honey is quite lovely too. The two go very nicely together....a wonderful snack.

I enjoy the blog...

Hope you will stop by mine and see if there is anything of interest there to you.

You have left me with visions of roaming masses of soya beans mighty herds of bison on the grassy plains of North America!!!

Polly, Polly, don't worry about the extra 10% in the commercial brands of peanut butter. It's just like the " I love you more than anything else" in passionate proclamations of love. Enjoy it...maybe a bit salty... enhances the flavour though ....possibly preserves it longer.....and in the end what harm can it do?
