Over Exposure?

My next issue is over-exposure:

first: It has stopped now, but for a while I was receiving emails from a local AdultFriendFinder member (who I considered a “non-match” saying that he was visiting my street, looking for my house etc. The address he described was incorrect but I think he imagined WaggyPolly was a woman he already knew. No harm was done, but you can imagine this was most uncomfortable for me. If the situation had escalated my solution would have been to take my profile down and call the police. But the police would have had little sympathy for a woman who lives alone and plays around on sex sites.

second: The number of matches “WaggyPolly” scored on Google suddenly shot up from half a dozen to over three thousand. This week it’s going down again, a little. Again I felt that somebody was watching me: why so many matches? I’m not on the Top Bloggers Front Page.

I began to dream about walking along the corridor at work and hearing a colleague say, “Morning Polly! Still Wagging?” Turning off my profile and taking down my blog would be the wrong reaction here; it would prove they’d got it right.

I know some bloggers wouldn’t mind being identified by family, neighbours or workmates while others would mind: it depends on the situations we live or work in.

How would you respond in these situations?

This is Polly, still Wagging

I have been investigating these links as part of my basement explorations. I have linked to blogs that are no longer standing in BlogLand, but are there with all their comments if you can find the path...

Just Send em to ole hooks Waggy , I believe that we can take care of this , no seriously I don't know what to tell you unless you do have a trusted friend on the police dept. that can watch after you , If that fails just get you a biker , guarantee that he will help you.

Sounds like a real concern Waggy.....but a question....have you evern given out your personal address????? I would never do that and I can imagine it would take a real pro with all kinds of technology to trace my blog back to an address....Go thru the server back thru my wires???? Unless he feels he has recognized your photos...now that is a danger for sure that is not blog related but in the profile...Any way I love your blog entries...want me to come over and stand guard?

Polly....I completely understand your concerns. You know that I have been in a similar situation.....and I know exactly what you mean about going to the police. I think changing your profile is a good idea. And I am amazed at the number of people on here that just publish their pictures face and all. But maybe they live in a different world than I do, where they can just be themselves and be accepted even with their family and friends knowing that they are here on a sex site. You are in my thoughts...and prayers.

i really don't care about people i know knowing that i am on here, but when dz found my real name by using the title of one of my blogs, i took it down, cos i don't want strangers knowing that, then knowing where i work etc etc.

the cops are hopeless in most cases.

i got a bit spooked when a friend said that she
saw my blogs on google. i had used a name that
a lot of people knew me as ~ not thinking when
i 1st came to this site. i ended up deleting
all of the blogs and taking down the profile,
creating my present one.

i find it odd that profiles are hidden from
standard members, but several ~not all~ are
visible with a google search.

i hope that you find that balance of comfort
and freedom to continue with your writing.

Polly, I think all of us who have been in blogland for awhile, pretty well know where you are comin' from with this. And we understand that there might be risks, and consequences here.

I've thought long and hard about it. My decision was pretty simple. If I feel that this becomes a problem with my family or profession, or even myself... then I'm gone. Outta here, nadda, zip, seeya. But I would do so knowing how much I would miss the very close friends I now have from blogland. Not AdultFriendFinder, because if they aren't in the blogs, chances are I don't know them. But if within the border of blogland, I feel I have been blessed with many.

We all I think, are rather careful in one sense or another to protect a lot of our true identity. After reading your blog, I still don't honestly think I could find you if I tried. (And I wouldn't mind the search, for a second!) But you are right, one out of about two does narrow it down considerably.

It seems like you have gotten a lot of sound advice already, Polly, so I won't belabor the point. I am glad you are taking action to stay safe. I just hate it that women have to put up with the idea of someone stalking them. It makes me more than a bit angry.

I just revised a recent post to be less specific about your location....I didn't ever imagine it would be a problem. I will be more careful in the future.

As for myself. Yes, I know I take a risk being here. I am careful about what I share and don't share. Perhaps I am being foolish but the benefits seem to greatly outweigh the costs at this point. And, I do worry from time to time about someone coming up to me in church and saying....Hey there redbird!...now how would I handle that??

There is not much to tell. Just google search your handle.

Now begin checking on where some of those links actually go. It really opens up when you click on the sub-link that sends you to "more" links from AdultFriendFinder.

I have been able to utilize these links to track down my "classic comments" for some recent blog posts. I just use an advanced google search and I can find any comment I ever made...

PS: open the cached files rather than actually following the link to the site. It is much quicker and you don't have to admit that you are over 18 either.

And google always highlights your search criteria so it is simple to find it on the page.

    Quoting candy69sosweet:
Hi sweetie, I remember when this all came out last year. I took down all my pics but the one on my profile. Little did I know, my 18 y/o daughter had already fond me on the internet by googling my screenname. That's part of what led me to leaving the site for two months last summer. Since, I have been a lot more careful about what I post. I'm sure a lot of my readers noticed that I don't do the explicit stuff anymore. Sometimes I miss telling it all, but what the heck, I gotta maintain my parental dignity...or what's left of it!!!

Please be careful! I am sure you already are, but I still worry about all my single friends. There are so many predators out there, and this site is a breeding place for them I'm sure! I found in the terms of use where they have the right to do what they want with what we post:

By posting content to any public area of AdultFriendFinder, you automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to Various, Inc. and its members, an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, fully-paid, worldwide license to use, copy, perform, display, and distribute such information, rights of publicity, and content and to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into other works and other media, such information and content, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing.

    Kisses & Hugs,
    Candy

"First we kill all the lawyers" is more than appropriate for the legal whores who penned the language in the release above. I must have been thinking with the little head when I tacitly approved that bit of legalese.

Wondering, since William shakespeare wrote that line, why it does not refer to barristers? Did Bill already know that the truly corrupt legal minds would ultimately hail from a country which would not be founded until 160 years after his death?

Steel, who's this picture of? If there's a link it's not working for me. Or should I recognise him?
