Yet Another Day With The Fam

Today was my nephew's first birthday, so I've been hanging with the fam. We had a BBQ, with croquet, of course. It was a good day.

I'm really glad that I picked up something for him though. I mean it was his first birthday, so how can you not? But normally lately we don't seem to even do gifts between us cousins, not to mention our kids. So it was a little out of the norm to have gotten him something. But what little kid should grow up without a rubber duckie bath set? I love those. Rubber duckies for everyone! But when everyone else started bringing in these huge presents I was starting to worry. I mean I only spent like ten bucks or so on mine. But in the end I fell right into the middle of things, so that worked out. Just lucky I thought to bring something at all.

And it was funny when his grandma brings out this little chocolate cake just for him, which turned out to be filled with pudding. Of course he made a mess. It was all fun and games until he got some in his eye. Poor little guy. But it was still cute. And a great way to break in his brand new high chair.

It was all a great day though. Hell, I only just got home. I should have been in bed two hours ago.

I could really use more days like this. It's a real let down to think that tomorrow morning I have to get up and go to work. Blah. Responsibility can be such a drag.

Sounds lovely, the biggest pressies are not always the best....

This is true. Though a rubber duckie has a hard time competing with a brand new luxury high chair. Still, rubber duckies are worth their weight in gold. (Especially when they have matching suction-cupped storage nets for the tub, because you can never have enough toys in the tub, but where do you put them all? ) So I like to think that practicality combined with cuteness gave me more kudos than an actual dollar value comparison.

But again, they're lucky I picked up anything at all. We just don't do that normally. It'd cost us cousins all a fortune to keep up with each other's kids. And I don't even have any to at least even things out! I swear my family has just never heard of condoms...
