Well I'm Pissed!

Part of the process of the insurance handling my fire damage claim is that my mortgage company has to endorse the cheques to pay off the contractor that handled the repairs. Which is fine. If that's what it takes. Whatever.

But my mortgage company has to make it an f'ing nightmare. I looked on their website for instructions on what to do. Nada. So I emailed them. (Because I wanted it in writing, knowing that they were somehow going to screw it up.) They send an email back saying to call their claim department. Because that says a lot. They didn't even include that telephone number in their response. Fine. Whatever. Don't be helpful.

Well, damn it, I knew I should have fought for it to be in writing anyway. Because I did call their claim department, as they said. I explained everything. I asked if there was anything special that I had to do. Oh no, they told me. Just send the cheques in to such and such address, and we'll endorse them. And like an idiot, I did just as I was told.

So what do I get in the mail today? (Well, yesterday actually. I hadn't picked up Saturday's mail yet.) I get a letter from them, with the cheques stapled and unsigned, saying that they can't endorse them because I didn't follow their proceedure. Which I did exactly as I was told to do. Is it my fault that the idiot that answered their phone gave me completely bogus instructions? I knew it couldn't be that simple, but what the heck was I supposed to do? Call her a liar and demand that I be given more complicated instructions? I mean I even double-checked, are you sure that's all I have to do? Oh yes, just send them in and we'll take care of it right away. Yeah. That's why it took over two weeks just to end up being denied. Right away my ass.

Well, anyway, so now I have to fill out all of this damn paperwork (WTF?) and resend the same damn cheques with it. And wait another two weeks. And explain to my poor contractor why he's still not being paid. My god it makes no sense to put all of this onus on people who have no idea what's going on.

Wouldn't it make so much more sense if the insurance company and the mortgage company actually talked to each other instead of using the poor clueless homeowner as a proxy for everything? Just as it'd make so much more sense if the insurance company directly paid the damn contractor(s), that they hired in the first place to do the repairs, regardless of my wishes (because I wanted to send that contract towards my brother in law since he could have used the work).

Why does every little detail have to go through the homeowner like this? It's insane! We're not trained to do this shit. We have no idea what's going on.

And it wastes everyone's time to add the homeowner as a middleman because that means every single piece of mail has to bounce to yet another destination, taking yet more days, and costing me envelopes and stamps like I was some damn business that has plenty to spare as a standard expense! As if I've not gone through enough trauma being nearly killed in a fire! I then have to go through this?

It's maddening.

Sorry for the rant, but god damn it's just not right. And it's worse yet when they jerk you around like this instead of actually giving you the proper instructions when you ask for them, or god forbid, fucking put them online with the forms and all!

Sorry for the rant, but it's just insane, and I sooooo don't want to deal with this shit. I just want it to be over. I mean the fire was in the beginning of January and four months of this I'm still dealing with this crap because the system is that flawed.

And they didn't even do a good job of repairing things and didn't do all of the cleaning that they said they would. A lot of my clothes still smell like smoke. And I haven't even seen a cheque for my actual losses yet. All I've gotten so far is just for the repairs and cleaning. I mean WTF?
