The Home(s) For My Hammies

Here are the homes for my hamsters. They each get their own seperate 10 gallon tank. (So they don't fight/breed/whatever.) Latte is on the left, Cream in the middle, and Coffee is on the right.

Aww - little cuties. I like rats too - they're cute but I think my cats would eat them !

Some cats are actually very good about that. They seem to know the difference between a domestic pet and a wild animal, and usually won't eat the domestic ones. But you never know.

Growing up I had three cats. They always left the petstore animals alone. Sometimes they'd watch them, but they never tried to eat them. However just about every wild animal I ever brought home to take care of (usually because it was wounded or sick) ended up being cat food. I suppose that's what I get for having two barncats as pets.

I'd love to know how they knew the difference and why that difference mattered to them.

You're right, some cats do seem to know the difference. My aunt had cats and hamsters...her kids would put the hamsters on the cats and the cats would just look at them. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself. I have also had hamsters, but never attempted to find out if my cats were 'hamster friendly'.
