Another Day With The Fam

And so goes another day with the family. It was fun. My aunt got a new pool. She smoked a turkey and a ham. We swam. We played croquet. We drank. It's all good. I only just got home.

It also figures that my vegetarian uncle didn't make it. Just for him I purposefully used chopped up Boca Italian sausage links in my pizza chip dip, so that it was all vegetarian. And he doesn't even show. Oh well. Everyone else loved it. Boca actually does a pretty good job with their vegetarian mean-replacements. It's still too much soy to base a diet on in my opinion, but their stuff isn't half bad.

Some of you are probably wondering by now, pizza chip dip? Yeah! I have an aunt that often makes taco chip dip, where you basically spread like a cream cheese and sour cream mix on a plate, them smother that with like lettuce, salsa, or whatever crap you like. Serve it with Fritos (especially the big dipping ones) and people can just scoop up like a taco salad in their chips. It's weird, but people like it. Not me of course because I'm not much into Mexican food though.

So just this morning I invented a pizza version. It's pretty freaking simple actually. Just take a plate with built-up sides (cuz dis is messy) and dump a jar of spaghetti sauce on the plate. Then dump a bag of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of that. Then add toppings. (I did vidallia onions, black olives, and chopped up Boca Italian sausage.) And again, serve with Fritos. Basically you scoop up an uncooked pizza, turning the chips into the crust. It's good stuff.

But what cracked me up to no end was how much everyone loved it. I was repeatedly asked for the recipie. It was like, recipie? For this? Seriously folks. A jar of sauce, a bag of cheese. Some chips. Whatever toppings you like. But hey, whatever makes them happy.

So am I just so naturally creative that it seems so common sense to me? Or is it really that simple after all and my family is a bunch of clues? Not that I'm worried either way, but just curious.

Anywho, it was a good day. It was a long day too. I'm wiped.

I just love a man who's handy in the kitchen!!! I think most people, male or female would agree. Congrats on the dip being a hit...and toodles to you for being such a swell guy to your family members; they won't be there forever...

Yeah, unfortunately I know that all too well. In the past year I've had two grandpas die. And the way my uncle drinks, sometimes I really worry about him...

Ah well. The circle of life and all that.

But at least I am more or less handy in the kitchen. Yet for some reason I totally suck when it comes to baking. I always burn something. I rarely get the dough to raise as much as it should. And in the end it never tastes quite right either. Cookies is about my limit when it comes to baking. But stove-top cooking and such I'm good at.
