Sailing on Seizures of Laughter, Crawling out from under the Heel of Love

Thank you, Paul Simon, for the title....

I'm not a blogger. I'm not given to revealing myself easily, and I'm leery of putting my thoughts in the hands of strangers. When I do open up, I can be a bit, well, terse.

But it seems that this year requires a confessor.

Eight years ago I dove into family life head first. I had no regrets, and I tried to be the best husband and father that I could be. It got to be a bit of a grind, but I stuck with it. I felt that the promise I had made was more important than my immediate happiness-- that after the fire was gone, I had only to hang on through the rough patch to get to a comfortable, shared life.

She didn't feel that way.

So several months and a great deal of legal paperwork later, I find myself here. I came to this site with the same attitude that any male of the species would-- "Hey, check out the hot chicks! I'm gonna get laid!" You can't blame us, ladies. It's how we're wired, and it's a good thing, in the right measure.

It didn't take long to realize that here, just as everywhere else in life, the men swarm around the women like puppies. So, OK, I've got to slow down a little. It's tempting at first to think you can impress the ladies by just saying you want to get laid. I'm sure that's original.

But I am here looking for something. I'm not sure what, but know that it's not shaped like Love with a capital L. After years of reshaping myself to fit what others want to see, I don't feel I could really fall deeply for someone without falling over and losing myself.

Don't kid yourself.

The guys will swarm here *way* more than in real life.

Not only that... but the guys will swarm over *all* the ladies. The same guys over *any* lady.

Whatever.

I think you have the right attitude. You have to understand yourself first... otherwise it's just a repeat of whatever happened the first time round.

Enjoy your time here.
