shake, shake, shake...

Shake, shake, shake...

Shake, shake, shake
Shake, shake, shake
shake your booty
shake your boooooooootyyy....

Funny how a silly disco tune from the 70s can spring to mind at times like these...
But for today, it seemed, well,... apt. We ...,er,... just had an earthquake...

I was in my apartment, about 15 minutes away from the downtown of Athens. It was a lazy Sunday afternoon. Full of antihestamins, as I am fighting a nasty cold, I was lying on my couch, covered with a blanket, reading my Sunday papers... I had fallen into a sweet nap...

I felt the first tremble... It awoke me. I didn't move. The building shook a little more. Then it was over. It wasn't violent... just a gentle nudge, as if someone lovingly wanted to wake me up. I smiled my trademark toothy smile... and went back to sleep... enjoying my rare moments of rest.

But not for long... Soon afterwards the phone rang. Some relatives, vacationing for ski in Austria (!) called...
"Are you allright?", the voice inquired...
"Er, yes, why?...", I answered, not fully awake yet...
"Well, we heard about the earthquake, we were worried..."
So nice of them to call.

I looked around me. My four lovely cats, all occupying a different corner of the room were looking at me... They had this almost angry look "Now why are you waking us up?", they seemed to tell me, as if I had caused the earthquake myself... I could just read their minds... "How dare you disturb us from our sleep?"

The phone rang again. This time it was my brother. He gave me his account of the earthquake. He was also asleep. He thought, "I 'm not having sex... I am alone... This must be an earthquake...", and went back to sleep too...

This is the third major earthquake in Athens of my lifetime. [There have been several around Greece, and the tru this this one was far away]...Thankfully I 've heard of no victims yet. I hope it remains this way...

The first was in 1981. I was in the States then... Oddly enough I was listening to the radio at 3am, when I heard about it. My mother was living in a 100-year old townhouse back then... I wiped all negative thoughts from my mind and went to bed. It was a conscious decision not to call anyone. "A phone call would be bad news", I remember thinking... Sure enough they all called the next day to assure me everything was allright.

The more recent one was in 1999. It was a warm September afternoon. The epicentre was but a few miles away from my place... Well, we really shook then... I was also in bed at that time... But, er, ... I wasn't alone... Now that might make a more interesting post...

hmmm, glad u are ok; i've never been in an earthquake -- TG -- only, since i grew up in a mining town, sometimes earthtremors from the mines -- those could be pretty scary, especially when we were on the top storey of classrooms, but i now live far far from there and hope i never have to experience that!

Interesting. I am glad you are okay. When you were speaking of the earthquake of 99 I was thinking, how erotic to be making love to someone when an earthquake happens. Then you said, "But, er, ... I wasn't alone..." You can't imagine how wet I got when I read that. YUM!

WOW!! Hon, I am very happy you are ok. I have to say I have never been through an earthquake either. I think that would freak me out. Being from Texas, I have seen a few tornados though. We use to stand on the front porch and watch the sky turn all kinds of different colors.
Isnt it funny how different places of the world expose you to diffetent kinds of weather or natural disasters and how we react to them? To me the tornadoes are something to watch happen in the sky till the start to touch down. You have a earthquake happen and you dont even get off the couch you go back to sleep. Here in New York they have big snow storms and they break out the snowmobiles. Hell, they pray for huge snow storms.

Anyway, I am babbling. I am sorry to hear you have been fighting a bad cold. I have had one for a week. I hope you feel better. I am sending you a big bowl of chicken soup, a warm blanket, a big hug, and a nice sweet kiss.

Feel better sweetie!!

mmmmm... hate earthquakes, I grew up in Northern California and we had "earthquake drills" in our classrooms along with fire drills... it certainly gave you a sense of doom at the time. However, when I was roughly 12 or 13, we were visiting friends in the San Francisco Bay Area and experienced a significant quake, enough to crack the walls of the house we were staying in and break quite a few of their fragile belongings... I was so frightened, but all those drills really did come back to me and I knew just what to do....

personally though, I would rather have someone here to hold me during the "shakes", how about you Toothy? .... would that have made the "quake" in your bed more palatable?

Apparently the depth of depravity here is bottomless... don't you feel right at home?

You know, I grew up in Greece, a country plagued by earthquakes since the beginning of time...
We never ONCE had a quake drill at school!... Nor a fire drill for that matter...

Now, ... mmm... experiencing an earthquake together can be veeeery erotic... all your senses exalted... arms held together... the pupils dilated... that look in the eyes, half excitement, half fear...

I think I 'd like to hold you during an earthquake... yes...

thanks for stopping by and wellcome to the 'bright side of the moon'....

Yeah, I slept in my kids room cuz the whole family was in my bed and I was pooped. I slept right under a large window and when I awoke and looked at the moonscape outside I was amazed. All the pines had blown down.

AWAY from the house. If the wind had been blowing the other way...

The first week I got to Ann Arbor, Michigan there was a tornado watch... My room mate looked at me and said "Toothy, if that tornado had been 10 miles to the north, it would have swept you back to Greece..." . I looked at him not quite knowing what to say...

But for now... I hope I don't see you flying by my window...

sometimes the wind here in michigan can be pretty strong...we pretty much get the extremes of all the seasons!!!!!

well i for one love the moonlight!!! the coming of the full moon was visible all week!! of course it was GREAT...the other day...when it reached its fullness, there was a moment when the sun was going down where the moon was so very soft, so gentle on the eye then it just got brighter, and brighter!!!!
