airport...

AIRPORT...

It was a gloomy day when I got to my car. The sun had hidden behind a group of clouds. The drive to the airport was hectic. Nervous. Rushing through the other cars, worrying I 'll be late.

I parked my car as close to the gate as I could. I walked into the terminal. I was early.

I 've always been amazed by airports. They are the gateway to another world. The last door before we take yet another step. I saw the people at the arrivals' gate. Faces smiling, falling into the arms of loved ones. Parents, grandparents, all embracing, friends greeting each other. And lovers. I could always tell before they kissed. That unmistakeable look in their eyes gave them away. This was the happy side of the airport.

I remembered all my trips. I had crossed the ocean 25 times. Each one of them different. Each bringing something new. Each taking something away. A smile, a tear, they all came to me, as I went to get a newspaper. It wouldn't be long now.

I found a chair, sat down. Tried to read, I couldn't. My heart was racing. I could see her coming closer, but she wasn't here yet... And then I heard the announcement.

I sat frozen. Started to count down in my head. I knew how long it would take to get from her plane seat to the door. The minutes passed slowly, excruciatingly...

Eventually I started seeing people from her flight. I recognized them by the tabs on their luggage. Still, no sign of her. I stood close enough to the gate, but far enough to be able to see everyone getting out.

My heart skipped a beat. I saw her first. She looked a little weary, a little lost. She looked beautiful. More beautiful than ever. I stood still. Opened my mouth but didn't make a sound. She saw me then.

Eyes locked at the distance. Finally finding each other. I stayed motionless for a second, but once I took the first step, there was no stopping me. I walked up to her. She hadn't moved an inch. I took her in my arms and held her for what seemed like an eternity. Her warmth, her breath enveloped me. Then, slowly we turned towards each other and our lips touched.

We kissed. It was a new kiss. A kiss pure as snow...

"It 's so good to see you", she said in a voice I only knew too well. A tear of joy welled up in my eye, but somehow I managed to contain it. "Wellcome to my world", I whispered, "let me get your bags..."

By the time we got to my car, the sun was shining brightly...

I know this feeling, that moment when eyes meet and your hearts scream their joy ... and all those around become mere obstacles.

Well written, I like this very much.

~Huntress,
[big smile]
Wish I had been there...
Thank you

~Lil,
Airports are such places. If this were an old movie, it could have been a train station. [smoke rises, then she appears].
Wellcome to my blog by the way, it 's good to have you here.
thanks.

Did you ever see the movie, Love, Actually? (LOVED the movie but that's another story). Your comments re: airports reminded me of the last scene of the movie, which I enjoy as much as the movie itself, I think.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Yes, wahine, of course I did. It was a wonderful scene and a wonderful movie. It really hit home, because I had thought about this so many times.

Thank you for stopping by.
