Love is the drug.

In the last few years there have been several studies regarding the chemistry of love. These studies are proving the pardigm of romantic love .... and romance fading. The brain... actually reacts very similarly to amphetamine... as it does to the initial elation regarding "falling in love" . There are 3 main chemicals called ( neurotransmitters) that allow your brain to talk to itself, PEA, Dopamine, & Norepinephrine... These are actually very similar in chemical makeup.. to amphetamines and produce some of the same effects - Euphoria, giddiness, Happy-Happy Joy Joy...
The bad news is.... just like crack.....the JOY JOY fades.... and the dispair and depression usually cuts in... The difference... ( chemically) is when you cut past the initial phase of romantic love... into long term relationship... This is the interesting part.. because this is when your body actually begins to step up production of another set neurotransmitters....ENDORPHINS!---These produce a morphine like reaction--soothing, secure, tranquil. So.. I ask this....
Would you rather be a long term SPEED addict... continually seeking the next fix? or would you rather go on a long morphine bender where you are not sure which end you will come out.
Just some thoughts.. and as usual for research purposes I seek your responses.. what you think... your experiences etc.....

Well, Muse, are you talking literally, or alluding to the coked up and opiated love you were talking about? I'll assume the latter, and respond with... give me the morphine. Coked up love is intense, and fun and all, but there is much anxiety, and often manic episodes.

Morphine love is much more comfortable... much more sane.

If only we could have speedball love...

I'm fully aware of what makes me tick and I love the XTC feelings of falling in love WITH the ongoing Smack state of a long-term relationship... perhaps this is what draws people into 3somes, etc... they love their long-term partner but also seek the spikes of intensity that can come from those sexual adventures (even when the 'love' might not be there).

Great post...
