A little fact

Did you know, that most women are improperly diagnosed with depression? Many women who are diagnosed with this, actually have Adult ADD. They only get depressed because they are unable to focus and to get things done, or because they are perfectionists and if its not done right, it will drive them crazy...Just thought I'd let you know

Definately food for thought, and I would suspect it isn't just women with this problem of misdiagnoses(sp?).

My ex wife has major issues od depression. Her mental disorders started after having children. When we finally came to the issue of divorce she walked away from everyone and everything. Sadlly she now only has the reminder of child support that makes her remember she has children. By her choice she left the kids saying she hated children and I needed to take them or give them up for adoption.
She went to a shrink for help and walked out screaming to the shrink that she was perfect and stoped taking her medication despite the fact she is very much bipolar. She has tried to kill herself three times and pushes everyone away. She has launched herself into drugs, booze and sex. Sadly in the state of Texas you can not send anyone to the loony bin. They must be sent either by a judge or by their own self. It's really a shame to see the woman who you felt was your soul mate vanish and be replaced by someone so cold. She actually used to be a loving mother and wife. She just snapped.
I guess that happens to some folks.

Mccartney, how long had it been since your wife had had your kids? Could it have been postpardem(I'm pretty sure I spelled that incorrectly) depression?

It is sad to see someone spiral into that type of depression. I had a friend try to commit suicide. She took sleeping pills hoping to die in her sleep. Fortunately, the effects of the pills hit her before sleepiness, and she got scared and went to the hospital. Life can be quite frightening.

majordomobility, I'm sure that it isn't just women who are misdiagnosed. Most men though, don't go in to get diagnosed in the first place. I may be wrong on that fact though

SWTexGirl, I am enrolled in an Organiztional Behavior class at UNT in denton, and in the last class we had group presentation over some of our text book. In reading and then in the presentation one of the presenters, a man, brought to the classes attention how bias our book was in the view of women, which they characterized as tending to be depressed. 2005 edition of the book, someone needs to smack the authors with a 2x4 and either give some attributable cause or give some sort of research info. to back up their B.S., hell we are all depressed! Men researching/writing about women, all the while not knowing/understanding what is going on in our own minds, let alone admitting to it!!

I definately agree with you mygmyg. It is funny how men want to write about the female brain. Men developed the bra...why is it that when it comes to something a woman needs, men are the ones always developing it or the theory, or whatever it may be. I don't have any problem with it as long as the research isn't just some power hungry man trying to make it look like women are horrible depressed people, who will never be happy. Thank you for your comment and your opinions, I really appreciate them. Very mind opening
