It's the end of a nasty long work week, and I will gratefully add that I am not used to working this hard at all. This past week needs to be the exception rather than the rule.

Before heading home with my stress I stopped at a local park and that's when I saw him.

I had headed toward the stream because I liked the way the late afternoon sun was glinting off the quiet water in the stream on the leaves of the trees hanging their branches in the water.

I watched him move his muscles under his skin, just flexing and stretching them. Then for a moment as I sat on the rock I lost sight of him. I let my gaze rest elsewhere, trying to let the stress ebb away with the water.

Soon, I felt his presence behind me. I glanced back and met his gaze. We exchanged looks. He pretended to not be looking my way and I did the same. But we glanced back again at each other.

I looked the other way and pretended not to notice how his walk was leading him closer to me.

And we played this game as his walk led him close to streambed and then away from me and beyond my vision. Yet, he came closer.

As he came closer, I could see lust in his gaze. Desperation, need, greed...all for me. This time he threw caution to the wind as he waddled close.

His searching beady eyes shone with bright intelligence as his beak reached for the bread in my hand.

What a lover...
