Happy (balancing DELETE)

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.
Henry Ward Beecher

It is an art to be happy?

The power of extraction…

Common things…

A few of my favorite common things…

Meeting the glance of a child and seeing their thoughts, their cleverness, their desire to be loved.

“Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children.”
Kahlil Gibran

Red-gold leaves of fall, and the smell of cinnamon.

The smell of orange blossoms in the orchards of Filmore.

A good cry, with great hiccupy gasps

A good laugh, a cackle, a chortling giggle

The sound of my mother’s voice

The sound of my children’s voices when they tumble about the loft, giving each other wedgies.

The love of forgiveness

A purring cat curled up next to me

A puppy’s warm fat tummy under my hand

Letting corn kernels slip through my hands

Lyrics in a song that speak to me

Colors that are warm

The taste of strawberries

The sun’s warmth on a crisp day

Riding horses in the rain on Pebble Beach, feeling my hair curl up, feeling the misty weather seep into my pores. Feeling unspeakably lovely and wet, the horse jogging under me as we rode alongside golf courses impossibly green and manicured, through wooded lands that rode up close to the Pacific.

I take glee from the joy of small things, the more common the better.

It is those very small things that make me happiest...especially, the purring cat

We find as much joy as we choose to in this life.

Yes, Mags... Let's not forget the cheap wine and a great mojito.

Akadafa,

Yes, the purity of happiness from a kitty that smiles with closed eyes as it purrs mightily and kneads with its claws.

And a fat puppy's tummy tight with food, little tail flapping mightily and little yips and yelps of pure pleasure.

Akadafa...

To evolve into a more complicated person...I should stay in tune with the inner kitty and puppy, eh?

Mags,

Gem should appreciate what good cheap wine and a few well placed dirty words will accomplish.

Spinmedown,

Exactly! It takes a great sense of beauty to see that.
