When Reality Bites

Step through the wardrobe of blogland
theres another world outside.
Its on the other side of that looking glass
its a world of a different kind

We leave behind eternal sunshine
for our own winter of discontent
the glare from the screen is still flickering
we dont know quite what it meant

The hours have grown into months now
The years are passing us by
we can no longer distinguish the difference
between the lands on the in and outside.

We talk to our mothers about blogjams
They ask is it easy to spread
I write in reports about "our friendly site" when I really mean bastards instead

The two worlds are hard to distinguish the longer I spend on this site.
But one thing I know is for cetain.
My real name is forever .......

Ah ... not a technophobe then?

The distinction between Real Life (TM) and the online life has been blurring for years. No one said that the telephone or letters were ever somehow a separate part of life, did they? It's just taking time to perceive this new medium in the same way.

Love the "blogjam" line, by the way!

Oh, and good to know you Starlight

Wow! I really love this post Starlight. You captured much of what I have been thinking in this piece, and for me that is a sign of great poetry. Thanks!

Nice to see you writing again Starlight

Great verse ... love the title

Are people more real in Blogland or in the "real" world?

What's real?

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery wall, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When someone loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
"I suppose you are Real?" said the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive. But the Skin Horse only smiled.
~From the story The Velveteen Rabbit~

I guess thats the point. This poem etches different emotions. The emphasis was on not only reality v nonreality but I was trying tpo convet an essence of spaces merged. It is all one because it is our life, or is it? which side of the narnia wardrobe, or alices looking glass are we.Do we porttray are real self or do we not knoww who that is.

Most peeps would say their name identifies them. But I am more Starlight then Amy though that is my nickname , my handle and not my real name.So where does the reality lie.
