There's bats loose in my house, mom's upset and the cats think it's great! Mom's not able to move to well since the stroke,so she's really in a panic! The cats think they're some kinda new toy,I'm just tryin' to get them out, before the cats actually get'em. I've opened the windows, only to have Henri get out on the roof,He seems to think that's great as well,he can just stay there,That way the bats are a little safer! Now all I have to deal with is Tiffy! Tiffy's my little hunter, she's the one the bats need to fear, and I don't want her bit! I've got her shut in a room hopefully with no Bats! Well it's back to the bats and my fat ass roof cat! ~Later

I would love to have some bats around here...they are great for the mosquito population! I have blueprints for a bat house, but haven't built it yet!

Thanx Loveme, I know what You mean,That's why I wanted to keep them alive! They aren't a problem, they are a solution!
And our Ecosystem depends on their roll in it as well!Get that house built, they'll soon come!~

Thanx SirMounts! That's about right, but they all flew out the open window as soon as the moon started to rise, there are creatures besides myself that prefer a moonlit,or star filled night!

Good luck with getting them out of the house spunky. We have three cats and they are a lot better at catching bats than I would ever have imagined. Sometimes they'll bring one into the house. I remember feeling something squidgy under my bare foot to find it was a dead bat. Ewwwwww! I guess the cat just meant it as a present but a CD voucher would have served better!

spunky11961 replies on 8/27/2006 7:57 pm:
Thanx Man! I'd prefer the voucher as well! That is one nasty feeling, stepping on a dead bat! My cats in the past have drug in bats and worse! Thanx for sharing that,I really enjoyed the laugh

We've had several cases of rabies being transmitted by being bit by a bat. Be very careful. Keep your mom away from them too!

BTW: My cats would think they were in disneyland if they had bats in the house.

spunky11961 replies on 8/27/2006 7:53 pm:
Thanx Nic, I heard of a boy that died from a bat bite/rabies earlier this year as well! But I got them in one room with an open window, they were gone by dark,But Henri really loves being out on that roof! Once there he forgot all about his flying, furry toys I hear ya on that one~

Get the exterminators in if they don't go. Bats carry all kinds of nasty diseases, even if they are cute. Apparently their shit stinks too - never been close enough to sniff !!

    Bats in the belfry huh.......
I too have heard bats carry diseases and rabies and their droppings stink. Be careful. I don't think they would try to attack, but would if threatened.

spunky11961 replies on 8/27/2006 7:49 pm:
Thanx Silver! I got them out just fine,I opened a window in the room I trapped them in and they just left at dark! I wasn't gonna get close enough to smell that either

There are bats living in the trees near my house. Thankfully none of them seem to have made it inside my house yet.
As I understand it bats are only a threat to insects not cats or people. Yes they carry fleas and other parsites, but does anyone know exactly how many people catch rabies from bats in the US anually?

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.

Hey Friend,Yes a few here die every year...A FEW... so I don't have the fear that most do and prefer to release them back outside alive, where they'll be help with the ecosystem once more~ Thanx friend,we think alike on this~

I grew up in an old country farm house and it wasn't unusual to have a bat or a bird flying around inside. My dad would use a broom to fight the bat and get it into a coffee can then take it out back and bury it. My sis, the animal lover, insisted on performing funeral ceremonies for every one of them.
Be careful and lots of luck!

spunky11961 replies on 8/27/2006 7:29 pm:
Hey Kritter,I was always the animal lover in my family, but I never buried a bat~ Your sis sounds as weird as mine! And Thanx! I got them all out at night by leaving a window open! But I remember my dad using both the broom and a bedsheet~ Thanx for sharin' this as well

I get a bat occassoinally loose in the house. I spray them to stun them and get the large fish net out to get them out of my house. Some of them aren't so lucky, they get caught in the furnace filter.

spunky11961 replies on 8/27/2006 7:03 pm:
Hey Country! Thanx for that, I've used the net before as well,But I don't know where it is right now,but the window worked and Henri got a day of fresh air as well thanx for sharin' that and watch those filters

We had bats once in our attic. We discovered if every thing got really quiet, if everyone left the room and we left a window open they would leave at night to feed. board up the window and yipee! No more bats!
