| WHERE WERE YOU DURING Y2K? |
Dec 29, 2006 3:16 pm Mood: curious, 4115 Views | There's talk of Doomsday on the horizon again just like with the year 2000 scare...The Prophets are predicting their dire forecasts and many are quoting the Mayan Calender which stops at the year 2012.... It's all leading to the same hysteria that happened during the months leading up to New Year 2000.. Y2K as it was called.... The hysteria all started with a little computer programming and code thing... Computers and electronics that used chips were feared to not be able to recognize the date 2000. According to many, everything was going to stop functioning at midnight December 31rst 1999...Programmers and Tecs were working day and night to try to patch things so the world as we knew it wouldn't come to a stand still... For everyone that was there this is ancient history now but it was total chaos the week leading up to new years day... I worked as a manager for a chain of convenience stores and even our corporate headquarters bought into the panic, they had generators installed and tankers filled with fuel standing by... the price of gas shot up and there wasn't enough to keep our stores open, we were selling it so fast,People were even trying to fill trash cans just so they'd have gas after the first when everything was supposed to crash... Bread Beer,cigarettes.. The shelves were bare, people were stocking up on everything, even buying duct tape by the case... God forbid ya run out of duct tape...Fights broke out in the parking lots,It was really something to see.. but a lot of us knew that the next morning everything was still gonna be the same, the taxes would still be due and collected, the credit cards that were maxed out in the pandemonium would still have to be paid and we'd all have to go to work..So Where Were You During Y2K? Did Ya Buy into it?

| THERE'S A NAKED RUSSIAN CHICK IN MY BATHROOM... |
Dec 29, 2006 12:57 pm 3755 Views | No kidding, last night I walked into the bath room and there she stood...wearing nothing but her birthday suit.. everything else was down around her ankles...She wasn't bashful for sure... I thought Santa had left me a late present, but it wasn't meant for me, she was selling vacuum cleaners door to door and just needed a place to pee... She ended up sellin' mom a Kirby but I did get that Moldavian cuties name and number... That's been the high light of my week so far, I'm on call at work, will be through New Years... not much work right now except for broken furnaces and clogged toilets... So New Years Eve I'll be making sure those at the bars and restaurants are able to flush their troubles away.. No sorrier sight to see than a drunk with no place to pee~ Thanx to God there's no snow in the forecast, At least I won't have to be out plowin' with the drunks gettin' in the way But there's many like me that have to work New Years Eve.. not just those that work in retail or the service industry, those that have to plow the snow and keep the roads clear, the Firemen and the Paramedics that have to scrape what's left up off the highways from drunk drivers and the Emergency room staffs that have to try save those that survive... The Police and Patrol that try to keep us safe but will be busy busting up the fights and the domestic arguments that always happen when to much alcohol and the Holidays are combined.... So Remember those that are givin' up their holiday so that you can enjoy it and try not to become statistic...Don't drink and drive, play safe but for Gods sake don't flush the condoms they plug up the pipes as you'll quickly see makin' work for those like me

| ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST...USHER IN A NEW ONE... |
Dec 27, 2006 1:34 pm 4356 Views | The Season to care and share, the holiday filled with the spirit of giving has past at long last... But there are those still in need and that doesn't stop With the Holidays passing. Families will still go hungry, children with needs unfulfilled, the homeless still out in the cold. Not forgetting to mention the unwanted stray pets out there.... The Holidays bring out the best in us and many are quick with a kind heart to share, but once the season's past do ya still remember those in need,or even those that just might need a friend? Many of us here have been in need before, many of us still are, And but for the Grace of God ya could be one day to... The out pouring of support here at the site amazes me,we've got a wonderful thing going here,A real carin' sharin' community. I guess I'm tryin' to remind ya to carry on with the spirit of giving and maybe reach out a hand in friendship to those that could use one~
Happy New Year To Ya Friends And Readers,May 2007 Be A Blessed One For Ya,Remember Those Less Fortunate, And For God's Sake Don't Drink And Drive~

| THE CHRISTMAS PONY..... |
Dec 23, 2006 12:34 pm Mood: nostalgic, 4799 Views | Many years ago when I still lived on the farm, The neighbors got their little girl a pony for Christmas. It was a wild mustang they'd bought out west and they had to hide it in the barn until Christmas day... Well Christmas Eve that ol' mustang ran away.Back then we were surrounded by forests and there was nearly a foot of snow already on the ground,we thought trackin' it down was gonna be pretty easy... we thought wrong. Close to midnight with a heavy snow falling, that pony still was runnin' free...all the countryside was out tryin' to catch it but all that seemed to happen was a few trucks gettin' stuck and a snowmobile falling through the ice... leavin' us with a long cold walk home... without that pony. All anyone could think about was sad that little girl was gonna be when she found out her pony was gone for good. Bright and early Christmas morning, there waiting to fed was the pony, right in their front yard... ~spunky | |

Today I woke up to find a twelve pack of Budweiser on my back porch... later I'm going down and see if he wants to share a cold one or two~ MerryChristmas

| SOMETIMES THE TRUE MEANING JUST SNEAKS UP ON YA... |
Dec 21, 2006 5:33 pm Mood: exhausted, 4855 Views | Sometimes ya just don't see it coming, You're in a place and a time where nothing's going right, to self absorbed to see or feel any one else's plight. I've got a lot shit goin' on in my life right now, and last night I was the only one from work on call. There I was tryin' to get shit faced when I got the call... Normally when someone calls I just run'em through the usual questions, tryin' to get outta makin' a sevice call that late at night. They told me they didn't have any heat.. There's a few questions I always ask, is it life threatining to anyone there... well that was as far as I got with the questions... I usually go as far as askin' if they can get by till morning, but in this case there was no choice... A kid with Cystic fibrosis...Things got even worse when I got there, the furnace was totally shot and at Midnight there's not anything ya can do,all the wharehouses and suppliers are closed~ A few phone calls and I finally got someone more shit faced than me to agree to get a furnace there~ All night long that truck driver and me got that furnace put in, he did all the runnin' for everything I needed... My boss even showed up this morning to help~ Over twelve hours with a brief break this mornin'... they've now got heat comin' from a new furnace... The jokes on the boss, they told me yesterday that I wouldn't be gettin' a Christmas bonus this year let alone get my paycheck before the end of the year, and I didn't tell'em that these people couldn't afford to pay for a new furnace..It wasn't revenge or thinkin' I was doin' a good deed, it was just the right thing to do..But in the end I learned a lesson to remind me of the true reason of the season, and Scrooge just got scrooged~ There's always someone worse off than you no matter how bad ya think ya got it~Merry Christmas to all of ya, try to remember those that are in need during the holidays~

| LIKE A DEER CAUGHT IN THE HEADLIGHTS.... |
Dec 19, 2006 5:18 pm Mood: drained, 5173 Views | Sometimes ya just don't read the handwriting on the wall, Ya just miss the signs...I just got home from The Bloggers meet and greet. At least I'm back on my own computer and the cats sure did miss me... but then no one remembered to feed'em while I was gone... The Day I first left I had to work a shift very early in the AM to make up some time...It was still dark out and I was tryin' to pass a truck just as a big Deer foze right in the headlights, He never had a chance that truck just mowed him down where he stood frozen... The trailer on that truck read "John Deere, Nothing runs like a deer"...That buck missed his sign there for sure~ My Weekend went great the meet was a once in a life time kinda thing...But I had an uneasy feelin' after that...I should've seen the handwritin' on the wall, but I was like that deer in the headlights..On the way home, once again I was passin' a truck traveling about 80 miles an hour when the battery just cut out, no power steering,no brakes, no emergerncency flashers and traveling 80 on a bumper to bumper traffic filled four lane highway...the truck I was passing had "Interstate Battery...Have You Checked Your Batteries lately?" Yup I sure missed my sign...What I walked into when I did get home sure left me feelin' like that ol' deer caught in the headlights again.... that's whole 'nother post though...So here I am needing my batteries recharged, I'm nearly drained... I aint got the energy to step outta the way of the headlights.. How's Your Week Going?

| POETIC JUSTICE PUPPY STYLE.... |
Dec 18, 2006 3:34 pm Mood: amused, 5604 Views | With less than a week left to shop for Christmas,The nightmares of shopping just get worse every day... not just the crowds and such, but Purse snatchings, stolen Identities, even cars broken into right in the store parking lot.... This is A Holiday Shopping Horror Story that happened right here in Ohio a few years back... This old farm couple went shopping in the big city, having taken their Pooch along, of course they left they back window of the station wagon cracked open....After a long day of shopping they went to unload the car, there in the back was a pool of blood and the pooch just chewing away on something... They got it away from him only to find it was most of a man's finger... They called the Sheriff... and sure enough the guy who'd tried to reach through that cracked window was found...through his left behind Finger..print....So there is Justice in this world, sometimes Poetic, sometimes Puppy Style. So how's you're shopping going so far... Or Should I Ask What's Left In Your Holiday Wallet?
