The Bends

I ended a two year relationship four days ago.

I quit smoking three days ago.

You can only feel one pain at a time. The aching everywhere, shakes, chills, knots in the stomach, dizziness, sense of loss and need.

I'll blame these on the cigarettes for a while, just a short while. I can do that. I think it's allowed.

Maybe I surfaced too fast.

Too many deep breathes at once can mess you up for a while.

I quit chewing but for resons that I don't comprehend supposedly quitting smoking is WAY harder. I always takes me as long as the relationship lasted to get over it. My last was a four year one and it's nealy been 5 years now since it ended so I'd say that I'm pretty much over it.

Now to break this bad habit of being out of a relationship. I'm not sure if I can kick it at this point. But I'm working on it.

Good luck with kicking smokes and with the broken heart blues!

Spinmedown ~ I don't think I have words to help, but you have whichever ones you wish to hear. I can offer a hug ... and the knowledge that you are in my thoughts and prayers. (Regarding the deep breathing? Well, clear ... pure ... oxygen is sometimes hard to take at first. Pace yourself. )

Hmmmm what would Brautigan have to say? *scratches nose*

I'd like to think, (really I would)
that sometimes, (occasionally...often...always)
we put our lives together in such a fuckity, hodgepodge (I liked 'fuckity' better) manner,
that the only way to make them better ( prettier, roomier, cooler than the jones') is to dismantle them
and start all over again (and again and again and again)

I could be wrong (as I often am)
but even if I am wrong (yet again)
at least I'll have enough 'busy work' (think basket-weaving)
to distract me from the pain

Spinner...

Take up cigars! You can still get the nicotine and not all the carbon monoxide and nasty nitrates which are more likely to screw with you on resurfacing. (Nitrogen narcosis, I believe they call it.)

'And the Lord said... It is not good for man to give up nicotine. So, the Lord made a cigar and gave it to the man and said... Puff this cigar - but, do not inhale, Spinner. You will be richly rewarded. Your heart will rejoice and your nerves will be calmed. You will suffer no more, my good man! This particular rolling shall be called "Frisco's" and will be made available exclusively from Thompson's of Tampa! Try it! You'll like it!! Solar would concur; ask him.'

Sometimes it's good to shoot to the top - just like a cork; they are natural floaters. You are a natural floater and I think you made the choice just in time. THe bends will not subside soon. But, your heart will be cared for by those who welcome you into the fold.

My arms wrap you in their embrace, my friend. Be all that you can be. BLOG your cares away. Puff your twitching into oblivion. Say goodbye to the bridges which must be burned and know it is a good thing - in the end.

Been through the nicotine withdrawal.
The addiction moves from the physical to the mental rather quickly, but it is the mental that is hard to beat. Me thinks that you have the strength to carry through.

The relatonship, well it seems to me that I read a blog in December that said (in so many words)it was over anyway. Good luck, and if it is truly GOOD for you, then find the strength to carry through

Spin~

Awww, c'mon! Quitting's easy! I've done it hundreds of times...

You've got cajones, mi amigo, giving up 2 addictions at once.

Kinda reminds me of when my x told me she wanted a divorce- seemed like a good time to give up Vicodin, Oxycontin, Crank, Opium, Extacy, Codiene, and Mountain Dew but cigarettes? Fuhgedaboutit!!!

Been a while since they last let me out into polite society. Resurfacing, catching a breath, & catching up.

And while I got my Broad-Brimmed Pimping Hat on, could I cajole all of y'all to Comment on, Alone In A Cloud? It's probably the best thing that I've written!

Keith So far so good. Happiness is just around the bend, over the river, thru the woods and maybe past that volcano over yonder. Til then, life is good! LOL
Krissys I always read your comments at least twice anyway. "Living well IS the best REWARD!" No revenge on my part. I wish the same for her.
KC JJ Welcome Here! I know what you mean. It always take at least a year for me to really start getting over it. Something about the anniversaries of different memories and the moods of the seasons, or maybe it's just hard for me to let go. Quitting for reasons you don't understand are the best. Makes it harder to reason away the resolve. I hope you find a love that totally blows your mind soon!
Fox Your hugs always help, hun! Thank you.
Yours, Too Welcome Here! I'm pretty sure I'll make it to shore.....after the fog clears. Thanks for the beacon, hun.
_Safira Have I mentioned that you are awesome lately? I'm man enough to take baby steps and hugs. Thank you.
sj365 I've always believed that sometimes it's just best to let all the pieces fall where they may. Then I can pick up what I truly need, leave the rest behind and continue with the essentials. I did an experiment once where I removed all of the foundations that I had built my life on. Did I topple over and croak? Nope. I just floated along for a while. Gassing up the truck and driving until I run out of gas and starting over sounds good, too. Richie and I will be out in the barn weaving until we decide. Plenty of lemonade to go around if you'd like to join us. Please bring some bandaids, those birch strips are rough.
Solar Hey, man. I'm gonna have to dig something out of the humidor for you sometime. Thank you so much.
Spin You built this computer, bud. Listen to everyone and be glad that you are a part of this amazing group of people.
fantasia One day at a time, dear. The patch would be so helpful right now..... SIGH
Krissy Say again.... Take care of yourself. I'll miss ya!
Maggie! If I got it, it's yours, darlin! And I'm one of Solar's pro bono cases. LOL
Valley Everything has a price. Ya pays your monies and ya takes your chances. Thank you for the encouragemnet, and thank you for dropping in again.
saintlianna Yep! Solar's a smart cooky for sure. I hope it works for you. ( I'd recommend Partagas No. 2s or Fuente 858s, myself. ) Alright, both of you are good eggs, if you must know.
SW #1 That is the most precious gift any of us can have. Thank you. Now to make it count.
TRAV Welcome here! I always knew you'd be here for me when I needed you the most. That is one hell of a moment to experience, the transition from one world to another. I knew those kevlar swimtrunks would come in handy. ( Ancient comment if you remember. ) Thanks for the support.
SFW Three things we all need more of. I'll try to spread them around to the best of my abilities. Thank you.
sexueen Welcome Here! Thank you for coming back and following this all. I know there are so many others who have been with me thru all of this. I would like to thank them all. This has given me clarity and strength. Thank you for your support.
Sil Welcome Here and Welcome Back! I missed you. Thank you for your support, and I enjoyed the post. Funky ashtray, might be a collector's piece some day.
Bard You know, I think it just might work like that. So well put! I will try. You were here in the beginning and stuck with me thru it all. I only wish I could repay you.
Mr.P Mountain Dew? You sir, are a mountain yourself! I'd die without sugar and caffeine and carbonation along with catchy jingles and clever marketing to push it on the masses. I read about what so many others here are going thru or have been thru and sometime my problems seem pretty trivial in comparison. I also see alot of examples of people who have gone thru the tunnel and come out the other side better for the experience.
I'm damn glad to know y'all!!!
Tillerbabe, you've been in my thoughts lately, and I've been sending whatever positive energy I can spare your way. Be well, sweetie. Come back to us soon.

While not a heavy user of the 'Dew, I'd be lost if I didn't have a bottle of that Ethylene Glycol-looking stuff at least available to me for my mid-afternoon jump-start!

mylf46 Congratulations on getting to the root of the matter and eliminating the poor substitute of nicotine. Thank you for passing along the wisdom. I think there is alot there that I can use. I mean that. Thank you. Sisters....tell me about it...
Nic Hey! Welcome back! I couldn't have done it with out your help. You've been here since the beginning, and I hope you stick around. I hope you get settled in back home soon and start posting some fun. Thank you for everything!
Solar I love maduro wrappers. I've always been fond of the Partagas, when I can find them. I can't remember who, but someone used to made an incredible little, box-pressed corona, Macanudo? They do tend to get a bit harsh towards the end unless you can smoke them very slowly, so they don't get too hot. Something I could never master, just too good! Their only drawback is that the wrapper has fermented to the point that they no longer age, so I never bothered to stash any of them. Smoke'm if ya got'm, my friend.

Good luck and congrats on the quitting...it is a filthy habit. This comes from a reformed smoker...2+ packs a day, (KOOLS) for 17 years, been a non-smoker for 10 years now...pats herself on the back! After awhile, those deep breaths will be like getting a little buzz! Your clothes will smell better, your home will smell better, you will be able to smell everything better!
What helped me...brushing my teeth (a lot) and washing my hands (a lot) I suppose it curbs the "Hand to Mouth" thing.
As for the relationship...can't help ya there, can't even help myself...but hang in there...it's all any of us can do!
