A Travel Diary, Day 3-a ferry trip across the Puget Sound...and guests!!

September 2
We slept in again today. Perhaps if I weren't kept up half the night, I wouldn't sleep so long, but Rick keeps thinking of really creative ways to stop my snoring.*smirk* yes, the secret's out...I snore!! I have championship snoring genes from my father, dammit!!! lol

This is the day for a ferry trip across the Sound. I haven't been on a ferry since I left Texas. I always loved the trip...it's so relaxing. The photo is the two of us with Kingston behind us. A kindly motorcycling couple was nice enough to agree to take a picture of us. It was a cool, breezy day, but not too bad at all out on the water, surprisingly enough. We had a lovely lunch in Kingston, lingering over our drinks, talking. We've spend a lot of time talking. Rick adores his children...particularly the younger one. What an amazing life this man has led!

We headed back to the ferry landing so we could shop for dinner. An old friend of Rick's, who lives in Anchorage, is in town to see his daughter and he and his wife are coming for dinner tonight. Yours truly is cooking. I'm surprised Rick is turning his kitchen over to me!! I'm making my favorite easy Italian...chicken marsala. We're doing some sauteed veggies to go with it. We got a baguette and Rick is going to use some of his magically delicious homemade pesto to do that bread thing under the broiler like he fixed to go with the salmon. There is a Washington state red in the wine rack and fresh fruit for dessert. There's also a bottle of sherry Rick brought back from his trip to Australia 3 years ago. He said he'd been waiting for just the right moment to open and share it and this seemed the appropriate one!!

The guests arrived bearing gifts...a bottle of really nice single malt (the same exact brand Rick got for me to drink!!) and another bottle of red wine. It seems they're both scotch drinkers and it looks like there's going to be some serious drinking done tonight!! They're a delightful couple and I was again politically outnumbered...3 to 1!!!! That's ok. I can hold my own in a political dispute!! They loved my chicken (PHEW!!!) and after dinner we sat down and played Taboo....what a funny game!!! We took a break and cracked the sherry...it is lovely...Rick was right!! Rick's friend brought cigars for the boys, so we adjourned to the patio since Rick maintains a non-smoking house. Another round of Taboo and more conversation and a VERY late curfew!! What a fun, relaxing day!

More tomorrow.
