Good For Your Soul, Clears Your Mind

There is something about gardening/landscaping one's own land that is good for your soul.
I was in the garden for 6 hours straight on Saturday, and it was the most theraputic thing that I have done in over a year. There is just something about the sweat dripping off of your nose into your own soil that has a certain purity. For the first time in a long time, it thought with a clear head.
Anyone that has followed my blog, know the basic story. Last year was such a mess that I did very little in the yard/garden. I pulled up many weeds and vines that I know have been there since 2004. I thought about all of the negative stuff that I personally did last year, and realized a lot of my own faults with what went wrong. It is not my wife's fault that the flower bed are overrun, Or that we didn't do a vegetable garden.
I was lucid like I haven't been since I worked the soil in 2004. It felt good to work my muscles, to sweat and tan in the warm sun. You feel a sense of accomplishment, and even better feeling when the plants grow and flower. The delicated balance of agressively churning the soil and delicately planting fragile flowers.
It is really special to work one's own land as well. It is not the same as doing it for someone else, or paying someone to do it for you. To root around in the dirt, to spread the manure, to smell the pungent mulch.
My kids helped me for a couple hours, too, which was really nice. We planted seeds and 2 flats of annuals. Besides planting, I let them dig and water. My daughter especially loved it.
Later, Samantha complimented me on how nice the yard looked. I took a shower and put the kids to bed, we has a couple drinks and made love. It gave me a complete feeling in my heart, and I slept so good that night.
