There are many choices of fonts, but not all fonts work on all browsers.

In order for a web page to show up as you intend it, your font choice must be installed.

The follow are considered browser safe fonts for window operating systems.

The tags for using a font are Showcard Gothic . For more information about tags, see Available Tags.

Are we able to make certain fonts, colours, sizes, etc defaults for use on our blogs? Or do we always have to remember to change them before we post any blogs and/or comments?

I'd love to know...and if it isn't possible, it would make a wonderful feature! :::hint hint:::

sexyfit_helper replies on 3/31/2006 4:16 pm:
As far as I know, you can not set defaults for your blog, but what a great idea to ask for. I have what I like to use frequently in a notepad so I can quickly cut and paste.

Theses other choices of fonts are not considered browser safe. If you look at the list, you may notice some don't look like they work, hence not browser safe.

Here are some I've been testing out which I tried due to their being the font sets that seems to be included across the board in most cheapie, generic text and word handling programs. I just figured that those font sets have such broad and common general usage that theoretically should word OK here and for the most part it appears that they do.

I guess I should say "it looks like they work for Macintosh systems.

But I have no idea if any of those fonts are displaying for the Bill Gates based machines out there.

Every one of them is displaying properly for me though on my Wozniac/Jobser.

And the name of that fancy curlycue calligraphic one is - edwardian script ITC

I wonder if the Xerox research guys who really developed the first intuitive, drag and drop type interface got much monetary appreciaton for it? Jobs and Wozniac take that idea and make a mint. Then Gates steals it once more and makes a less expensive but initialy much functionally crappier knock off of it and proceeds to rule the known universe. I bet the guys who lost out the biggest on all that were the no-names from Xerox who really came up with it.

I guess I should qualify that by more specifically stating "it looks like they all work for Macintosh systems."

But I have no idea if any of those fonts are displaying for the Bill Gates based machines out there.

Not many people know that it started with Xerox. Hats off to you. What is really funny is Mac suing Microsoft for Xerox developed technology.

Just a note on the 'papyrus' font.

As a general rule when windows users opt to use this font it will auto-default to instead display the 'trebuchet ms'font on MacOS systems.

Most likely due to it not being included as a standard font when you first buy a new Mac system.

I still have never seen what papyrus really looks like so I don't know how close it is in appearance to trebuchet ms.

Yes, basically the font is not supported. I am surprised that it would not work for you all the time because if you have the font on your computer it should work.

The thing is, only browser safe fonts are supported so that anyone looking from any page would see what you intended. Generally if the font isn't supported, another one is just substituted in, so when it isn't working you are seeing what anyone without the font is most likely seeing.
