touching

I have one of those rare jobs that I actually get to touch people. You can figure out from the photo what it is (and no that is not me in the photo). I was speaking to someone who does the same thing that I do about this. It is amazing to me that I seem to be the only one who actually touches some people. I see my clients anyhere from every 4 to 12 weeks and I think that for many of them I am the only one who touches them physically in that time. Many of my clients are women. Many are single. I make it a point to hug everyone that comes in. It is nice to see the release that it gives some people. It is amazing to me that more people do not make it a habbit to hug. It is a simple gesture that many people need, want, desire. That being said, something happened with a client of mine yesterday that brought tears to my eyes. A woman has been coming to me for about 2 years. The appointment started out as usual........we sit we discuss her last appointment, if she had and thing that she would like to change......blah, blah. I shampooed her hair and I saw her whole body relax. I spent a little extra time with her in the bowl because i could tell that she needed it. We talked through her whole service and I thought that everything was fine. I finished up with her and I went to hug her goodbye.........she started crying. I couldn't believe it. She told me that her and her husdand were getting divorced and that this is the first time that anyone had touched her since that last time that I saw her. I was shocked. I realized then that I am lucky. I am lucky that I get to touch people every day. I am lucky that I have a job that I have to touch people and it is sad that more people don't give out hugs. My challenge to all of you today is to hug someone. I don't just mean the side hug or the "I really don't want to touch you" hug. I mean grab somebody and HUG them. You never know..........you may just make someone's day!!

YES!!! I agree 100%

We do not touch each other enough. Giving hugs is one of the easiest ways to communicate that you care to friends and loved ones. It's also one of the easiest ways to cheer someone up and to brighten their day.

BIG HUGGS TO YOU!!! I cut my own hair for the last year and a half. I just take the electric clippers with an attachment, so you can probably guess how short my hair is. But I would come in just to get a hug!! TGIF!! Have a great weekend!!!

I have a self inflected hair cut.....but I must have been going to the wrong place because I really had no interest in the 70yr old barber hugging me, and neither did he. But we did the secret male handshake........which could be a similar form of bonding.

I do tend to typically hug females, but males it's the good old handshake......

Shampoo, head rubs, maybe I should grow my hair back out? Nahhhhhhh

Truly, I'm touched,
By your words,
Thank you.
And will go forth and touch more (oops sounding kinda not-me biblical)
But part of the power that happens in blogland is this kind of sharing.
More people will be touched, and will feel touched,
Because of your words,
And the world will be a better place for it,
So thank you again for also making the world a better place,
One hug at a time.
