The "Forever Concept" Part 1

for-ev-er

The noun forever has one meaning:
Meaning #1: time without end

The adverb forever has 3 meanings:
Meaning #1: for a limitless time
Meaning #2: seemingly without interruption; often and repeatedly
Meaning #3: (informal) for a very long or seemingly endless time

I have often said that I want "Forever". I had a friend ask me today, "What exactly does "Forever" mean to you?" It struck me as funny.......it means........well.......forever. But then I realized that forever means different things to different people.

I am interested to know when I say "I want forever" what you hear?

What do you think that I mean?

What does it mean to you?

I will do a post soon to let you all know what it means to me, but I am interested to see what you think before I do that.

Thanks for your responses.

-Disaster

Ya ya I know.....I am making you think again.....get over it.

Forever is well forever, but, you had to know that there would be a but, life is transitory. What is here today is gone tomorrow, so i would have to go with Adverb meaning #3.

Forever is as long as ... one hopes it can last.

When I hear someone say "I want forever" I think they mean "I want (it to last) forever."

Although I do know people who mean "I want (to live) forever."

I think that I must be immortal, because I do not want to be. I just want it to be over, peacefully and painlessly.

What remains will be forever.

I guess I think of "forever" as relating less to "through all possible time" and more to "through all possible situations": no matter what happens, this will be true above everything else.

I hear that you want the security that "forever" would provide, and I think that you mean that you don't want things to end, as in #1. But since I don't trust in forever and I know that everything ends eventually, it doesn't mean much to me to say that. I guess if I believed in it, it would, but those days are over.

I've thought a lot about "forever."

I got married once, and I thought it was "forever."

Forever is a concept that doesn't work for me any more.

What I want is to make the best possible choices for this moment and the next and the next.

If you said forever to me would you mean:

It would take forever (time without end) before you'd go out with me

Or that you want my forever (for a limitless time) love and devotion

Or that you're anxious to share some forever (seemingly without interruption; often and repeatedly) sex

Or maybe just to be forever (for a very long or seemingly endless time) friends?

Been down the road so my interpretation of forever will be tinged with sadness and cynicism.
Forever to me means " Until I change my mind."

I don't like to think now my head hurts.

And well nobody believes in forever anymore because it takes to much effort to make something last forever. We live in a day and age were forever only lasts a few months or minutes.

It's the middle of the night, woman...why are you making me think??

This is a difficult question to answer...one of those ones that seems pretty clear in my own head, but trying to put it right into words is hard. I guess for me, "forever" means to last for all possible time. People fall in love and say that they will be together forever...but then they split up. Where they wrong when they said together forever? No...they were together for the full length of time that was possible for them to be. Does that make sense?

"till death do you part"

or to quote the song till you are "prayin' for the end of time" (Meatloaf/Jim Steinman)

When you say "I want forever", I hear, " I'm not interested in sport fucking"..."I'm looking for Mr. Right and when I find him I'll hang on to him."
Enjoy the search!

the only relationship that is a guaranteed forever is the one we have with ourselves...yet we very seldom give it the focus that it needs...i would love to find someone to share forever with that i want to share forever with. because for me, forever means forever. infinity

Yep, that's it, at least relationship wise.

Ugh..I am so bad at "forever." Above all, I think I am way too jaded to answer this question, and I know my "forever" is so different from your "forever."

I haven't come across someone who helps me refine MY definition of forever yet.

Fuck it. You know, it's impossible for me to comment on these posts of yours cos we've already talked about this too.

As a compulsive correcter of those who incorrectly quote where a song lyric came from, I'm delighted to encounter another who recognizes the existence of Steinman. I follow everything I can find that he's done...

Forever is a very long time so I like to think of relationships as a right now thing tomorrow may never come.I have the tee shirt to prove it.

Forever....well it's the elusive fairy tale for me I guess...to find that someone that we connect on every level, and want to share the rest of our lives together...work together, support each other, be best friends and best of lovers.
I believe it exists for people...I just haven't found it yet. I still want to believe...and I think you do too.

My first truly psychodelic experience, that change d my life forever, came while going to a church dance. It was night and I was outside lookng up at the zillions of stars and thining about the wrod "eternity" and trying to get my mind to go out as far as eternity went - but as far as I could go, think, imagine...eternity was further. I got to a point where I wasn't even there! My mind was so far out I didn't think I'd get back and of course right then I came tumbling back to my own mind and body.
Now, "Forever" as a physical thing, why sure. Science tells us matter is never lost, only transformed from one state to another so "it's" always there. (It is another story) I wonder aobut energy though - it seems so temproal yet light travels from zillions of light years to us.
I think I need a drink of Maralla. and to make love with a Goddess. Have to settle for the Marsalla tonight ...sigh...

Oh as for relationships forever...sure! But it's harder today because people are into themselves now - going through an age of growth (I hope) But sure, it only takes being able to give up or merge your own ego with the other. Easy, yes? Then again we're experimenting with new forms of relationship where the object isn't to beget babies but to enjoy and learn from life. Pioneers!

When you say forever, what I hear is "until one of you departs this earth." But that is just my take on it. Now lets hear yours.

Well like a few other people when i first married "forever" WAS till death do us part.

I wonder now if forever is really appropriate ---- perhaps a today that never ends --- each day different each day an opportunity to fall in love with your partner again

To find something new and exciting in the world -- forever seems to imply unchanging boring --- not the intention thats how it now sounds and yes i would like to live forever or at least a reasonable percentage of it
