A Cool Asagaya Bar

Down to Asagaya tonight by surprise ‒ singer Terry Peter’s birthday party right was happening right in my neighborhood. Club Gamuso-Chroma is a three-floor bar and lounge ‒ great place for a party. Nice stage on the second floor, trancy band playing. Now that I’m “between engagements,” Terry and I might work more together. And I’ll probably do a one-man show there in January. Maybe some AdultFriendFinder people will come??? Just up the street is a hamburger shop styled after America in the 1950’s. WOW!!! My favorite. The best hamburgers in Tokyo!

But most important tonight was hearing bartender Jack telling stories of other people less lucky than me with the police. Gaijins spending two or three months in jail, then deported after the cops found tiny amounts of the wrong stuff in their pockets or backpacks. I sat there thinking about how close I came to disaster Friday. Lucky, lucky, lucky. I better change my carefree ways.

Jack told of one guy that paid 1,000,000 yen to get out of trouble, then he left Japan for Sri Lanka, where he spent his last savings on building six rental bungalows on the beach. His new business. He and his friend hammered down the final nails in on Christmas Eve, 2004. Two days later the tsunami came and washed everything away. He ran into the hills and lived. But what can you say about that guy? Unlucky. Unlucky. Unlucky.
