Slow Down

Part I

My blog exploded this past weekend. That was the tipping point. I made some decisions after that.

No, this secret blog is not shutting down. Nothing that hasty.

But another change of direction is here.

Since June, this blog has shifted into weekday mode. Generally, readers could find new material here on most work days. Sometimes more often.

That is not a high rate compared to the most popular bloggers who often post several items daily. But it was a higher rate than how this blog started. Originally, this blog was conceived as somewhere to post weekly, sometimes more. And we are headed back in that direction.

The technical problems are just one of the reasons for this decision.

I decided it was no longer fun while wading through the blog this weekend. The technical glitches caused about 60 comments that I had killed since the end of July to deposit themselves back in these pages. I think I have killed them all again. These were either tests on graphics and pictures, or they were postings that had problems with content of one type or another. All of these were my comments. But when they all appeared again it was as if all the garbage you had hauled out of your home for ten weeks suddenly reappeared in your basement.

But other problems persist. There are at least a handful of comments I cannot see. This problem is not new. I have written about it before. (See: The Invisible Comment.) However, I have no way to know if these are new comments or old ones resurrected by the glitches. Usually, I respond to most comments. Not seeing these makes me wonder if some folks will think I am just being cold and not finishing conversations. I would rather not have that concern.

(The remainder of this post will continue inside.)

Part II

Recently, my job demands also increased. I am behind on two projects right now, and folks are knocking at my door wanting new material on additional projects. Frankly, I can’t keep up with the present work demands. I have found that my only way to catch up is to cut into time I would normally use to write this blog or to make comments elsewhere in BlogLand.

Some may have noticed I have been unable to roam and comment as before. That is partially due to increased work demands, and partially due to decreased secure time in private.

More and more now, home and work life intervenes on my blog hobby. In the next ten weeks, I am expecting three separate waves of relatives to land at my home. Getting ready for them is also taking up extra time. One of those visits will be a month-long stay by my mother-in-law (See: [post 105646].) She likes to poke her nose into my home office and snoop. So I’m expecting even less time to connect from home. As you can tell, her visit really has me thrilled.

So for now, the plan is to continue the regular football column and the occasional eye candy post, along with anything else that strikes me. My apologies to my friends in BlogLand but I won’t be around to comment much. All this, I’m sure will have an effect here. I won’t be gone completely, but I see this as putting at least one foot out the door.

To be clear, the technical problems that have plagued this blog from almost the beginning are not the only reason for this partial departure. But they finally became too much. Statistically, the blogjams, censorbot attacks, and bugs have actually decreased in the past month. At this point, 44 percent of this blog has experienced some technical problem. That was at a startling 48 percent last month. Last week, there were also problems with comments not being approved for almost a day. (See: JAMMED UP!.) In a blog that actively uses the comment section as a continuation of the main post, that caused additional problems. Some posts last week, also would not take more than one comment from the blog’s author, which added more creative problems to the mix. At some point, one realizes the frustration is not why they started this process and the way to get rid of that frustration seems apparent.

To the regulars, many of whom have been here since March, this won’t really change much. But it means I am going back to the periphery. Perhaps that is where I belong.

Just to illustrate a point, when this was first posted, the second part had not been approved by the administrators for more than eight hours after the original post was filed. So many folks who saw this originally, only saw half of what was intended. I have refiled this with less graphics formatting with the thought that may prove to be less of a problem.

This is a subliminal message: write, comment, consume, write comment, consume, write comment consume, write comment consume.

Periphery? Hold on Rocky, I'm coming with you far from the madding crowd. I don't think it will take long, please keep a seat for me. I too experimented some backing up from the past and had to do some cleaning. Perhaps that's AdultFriendFinder's way to boost our comments and ego?

However that means one thing for sure: I will have no chance but to start going in for football championship.

Rocky... I'll miss you dreadfully, but as you may have already noticed, I am already perched on the periphery, and it's pretty lonely here, so some company would be nice.

Hope you'll not vanish completely, and just know that all your Blogland pals are thinking of you while the Wicked Witch is visiting.

Love, hugs and kisses from ♥♥HH♥♥

Hope to see you around. I enjoy your posts about music. They're very informative, and I hope you can still make those posts once in a while, too.

Come into my realm! You aren't afraid...are you?

>>>If this is my company out on the periphery, then that's fine by me!

>>>Priapeo... not to worry. If a Canadian can win the football contest... an Italian can win too. We do not discriminate!

>>>HH... sorry to see that you are out here too, but I knew you were wavering and I'm just glad to see you back. Don't worry. Not going for good. Just won't be around as much. And probably won't be far from this spot much at all. We'll have to think about blogging about the witch.

>>>Nick... thanks as always for your support. I had to choose: music or football. Football won only because there is a season in full swing. Don't worry though. The music posts will return, just not on a weekly basis for awhile.
