Someone Elses' Songs

I believe music and lyrics have a profound effect on how we view the world and hear it as well. Here, I will post song lyrics and favorite line I know and love.

This sounds corny, but one of my favorite lines in a song is one called "Berkely Woman". The most well known version is sung by John Denver. The chorus is as such.

"A woman is the sweetest fruit
That God ever put on the vine
I'd no more love one kind a woman
than only drink one kind of wine."

The album "Farewell Andromeda" is JD's most underrated album is his caon.

"Cars Can't Escape"(The Reasons For You To Love Me) by Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett is one of my all time favorite songs. Sing it in a sleepy sing-song voice and it reads just beautifully.

When red is bled
And petals blue
And in my sleepless head
our love's been dead a week or two

Sometimes,good times
are stuck inside of you
And then they're gone
But I don't know why

Alot of things have changed
Since we said goodbye
There were reasons for you to love me
But I gave you none

So I tap my glass and nod my chin
And wonder who you been in rhythm with

So time's just time
Cars can't escape
When clouds are grey and close
Not often,too far away

And blue has no value, power or hue
or open skies,relationless
Carelessness is what I miss
And that's how I think of you

Sometimes,good times
were all we had to do
So I tap my glass and nod my chin
And wonder who you've been in rhythm with

So I tap my glass and nod my chin
And wonder who you've been in rhythm with

"Lost My Drivin' Wheel" by David Wiffen has been done in a kind folk style....most popular version that most people know is the Tom Rush version. Imagine my suprise when I heard an unreleased version by the Clarence White era Byrds.....in a kind of "arena rock " style!

Well I just came up on the midnite special...how about that
My car broke down in Texas...she stopped dead in her tracks
Just called to tell you I need you
Just called to tell you how I feel

I feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel
Feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel

Took my money on the night train...what a terrible fight
I gave you my promise I would be there w/you by Saturday night
I wanna tell you that I need you baby
Ineed to tell you just how how I feel

I feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel
Feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel

Can't say much in a phone call...baby you know how it is
I have to tell you one short thing...oh, won't you listen to this
I want to tell you that I love you baby
I want to tell you just how I feel

I feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel
Feel like some old engine...lost my drivin' wheel

Here's one of the greatest road songs that no one's ever heard. "Amphetamine" is a cautionary tale sung and played til the the wheels d*mn near fly off by Steve Wynn. Wynn is best known for his stints in Green on Red and the Dream Syndicate in the '80's and '90's.

On the 7th hour of the 7th day...
The 7th son was lookin' for a 7th stage getaway...
The word came down from a blinding light
You got one chance, you'd better get it right

I was drivin' down the 101...
It was late at night and I was thinkin' 'bout things I'd done...
All of my regrets...all of my fears...
I was slipping the car from gear to gear to gear...

Man, I really got goin'..startd pickin' up speed...
I hit 135 an' I had everything I need...
Started shakin' bad...fearing for my life...
I let go of the wheel and I flew into the night...

God bless this child,God blss his soul...
God perish the idea that he will die before he's old...
gotta be cool....you gotta behave...
Man, there'll be time for that when I'm lyin' in my grave...

You gotta watch your step,or you gonna lose your way
Take heed of the others,do everthing they say....
Yeah...I gotta watch out for the man who tolls the bells...
But if I fear for the devil and I fear for myself Then I'm gonna
have to fear for everybody else!!!

Here's a song with some rather interesting imagery....by a group called califone out of Chicago.

WINGBONE

fill my belly with your whispering some barely on the thread
orange sound water sworn and cotton fire cold light swallowing
your song

pasture moonlight newborn legs let the constellations drop crack
your scorn water your grave only when you're half erased forget
your lines bed of nails sharpening the edges of your grace

cold light sifting through lift the shade and let the light in

carry your bed on wingbone legs let the constellations drop water
yous scorn and crack your grave sharpening the edges of your
face lost a day a bed of nails lost your lines only when your
wrecked only when you're half erased loneliness aside it's alright

Yeah I told you it's interesting.......
