Walk on by... Today's Thought...

That was a title of a great song in the sixties by Dionne Warrick. (Great to dance to, by the way.)

We all walk on by every now and then. And we miss out on a lot of pretty good stuff.

Walking through the grocery store yesterday, I was behind a lady who kept her eyes only on either what she was buying or looking down in her cart. (Sometimes I people watch a lot.) No one spoke to her and she didn't speak to anyone. Meanwhile, loud mouthed me, spoke to I think, about a dozen people... and smiled... and gave out two hugs. I noticed each time I spoke with someone, she would glance my way.

Around the isles we went... sometimes not the same isle, but ending up front at about the same time. I spoke to the cashier, using her first name, as usual, and talked with the manager at the same time.

After I finished, the lady was stepping up to where I was. I turned back to her, smiled, and said have a nice evening. At first, she looked shocked, and looked down, then looking up, she kinda half smiled and said thank you.

I doesn't take much to make another smile. I doesn't take much to make someone feel good. Try it! It'll make you feel good...and the rest of the day you'll probably smile, too.

Either she was happy about what I said, or she thought I was a total jerk!!! Doesn't really matter... I felt good about it.

I love people watching and have had a lot of great conversations with people in the grocery store by doing this. Though there were some I wanted to ram my cart into

I Talk and smile at people every where I go and I can't remember the last time that they never at least smiled back.

It makes me feel good to see a stranger smile back.

It is great that you could put a smile on a persons face that just did not want to smile or even look up from the cart for that matter. Just think, not only did you put a smile on her face, reading this put one on mine...thanx

Thank you all for your replies. Everyone here has a very infectous smile, I would think. Each of you put a smile on my face...

Now, tab.... let's not get too carried away! (What a wonderful compliment, thank you, sweet one.)

Smiling in general and smiling at others can go so much further than one can imagine. Just being positive can be infectious too.

Same here at the grocery store. "small town friendliness, I go in to the grocery store everyone knows everybody " I can spend hours visiting at our grocery store. You can tell the new folks, they sort of look startled when you look straight at them with a smile and say hi, but they usually catch on fast and reply back with a smile.

Great advice! [blog unlistedone] Great smile too!
