One of Many....

Someone asked the other day, what's your favorite song?

Now that is a very difficult question. Music is my hobby. I love motown, soul, beach, and a lot of other music. I collect them. (I'm the guy that'll buy a cd just because it has one song on it that has eluded me for my collection!)

So, I did some thinking... and there is one that does show up in at least my top one hundred. Sorry, that's about as close as I can narrow down my favorites list.

Today, I give you
Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind."

One hell of a song... one hell of a set of lyrics.

If You Could Read My Mind

If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'Bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost you can't see

If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part
where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, let's be real
I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back
If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'Bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feeling's that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back.

I like this one Unlistedone! Your collection sounds great. How about "I Can Love You Like That"....ummmm by I think, All4one.

They read you Cinderella
You hoped it would come true
That one day your prince charming would come rescue you
You like romantic movies
And you never will forget
The way you felt when Romeo kissed Juliet
And all this time that you've been waiting
You don't have to wait no more

I can love you like that
I would make you my world
Move heaven and earth if you were my girl
I would give you my heart
Be all that you need
Show you your everything
That's precious to me
If you give me a chance
I can love you like that
I'd never make a promise I don't intend to keep
So when I say forever,
Forever's what I mean
I ain't no Casanova
But I swear this much is true
I'll be holding nothin back when it comes to you
You dream of love that's everlasting
Well baby open up your eyes

If you want tenderness, I got tenderness
And see through to the heart of you
If you want a man who will understand
You don't have to look very far

Yikes... I think stumbled into a private chat room. Great songs, the first one of dispair and the second one of hope. Been both places, bought the books and the t-shirts. For myself, I choose the song of hope...

mmmm very similar to something I love, I dont recall the artist as this is very old. I mean old 45's old never saw the light of digital.. But the chorus was awesome and I would love to have it again "If you could see you through my eyes, then you would know how bright you shine. If for a moment you could climb inside my mind......Then you would know the way I feel, and you would know that this feeling is real... and you would love you too if you could see you through my eyes. mmm thanks for making me remember

IN THE GHETTO

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
It's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto

People, don't you understand
The child needs a helping hand
Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
Are we too blind to see,
Do we simply turn our heads
And look the other way

Well the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
A young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
Tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
Face down in the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

As her young man dies,
On a cold and grey Chicago mornin',
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

In the ghetto
In the ghetto
